One day Joseph went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside. She caught him by his cloak and said, "Come to bed with me!" But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house. Genesis 39: 11-12
What I received from Jesus today is: How can we not be selfish?
Wow! Today Jesus gave us a direct answer from yesterday's title "Don't be selfish!". This chapter shows a very clear opposite situation of the last two chapters. Because of the selfishness and wickedness of Joseph's ten brothers and later in his brother Judah's family, they suffered the consequence of selfishness!
Here in this chapter, because of Joseph not being selfish, greedy and wicked, he demonstrated a perfect example of what a righteousness man should be. And he showed us the only answer of how can we not be selfish. I don't think there is other answer than what this chapter wants to tell us:
The Lord was with Joseph. (v. 2)
When his master saw that the Lord was with him. (v. 3)
The Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. (v. 5)
The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had. (v. 5)
But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him. (v. 20-21)
The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph's care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did. (v. 22-23)
So, the answer is one word - Emmanuel! The Lord was with Joseph. That was the only reason he was not selfish and wicked even he was so ill-treated by his brothers and was in a lot of sufferings.
If you do not want to be a selfish Christian hurting others and yourself then you need to have a daily intimate personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. No other way, my friend!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be willing to have a daily intimate personal relationship with you so that we won't be stepped into the trap of becoming selfish and wicked. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
