Bible Study

This passage gives us a meaningful pictures of two different kinds of responses by using various words:
1. Those stiff-necked Jews
Jealousy, contradict, reviling, reject, incited, persecution and drove out

2. Paul and Barnabas and those Jews and Gentiles who believed the Gospel
boldly, rejoicing, glorifying, believed, spreading, filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.

What would you feel if you were Paul facing with all kinds of opposition in the beginning of your first missionary journey? Would you feel discouraged and want to give up? Which group of people do you usually belong to?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: Which group do you belong to?

What I got from Jesus is a question of self-awareness. It's not a question that you can answer easily. Why? Because if you belong to the first group, I don't think you would ever know or you would ever admit.

So, how do you know if you have a tendency to belong to the first group? Well, if you have used any of those negative words "Jealousy", "contradict", reviling", incited", "persecute" and "drove out" to your pastors and leaders, then you should be one of the first group without your awareness. That was how Saul was in that group before he was having his conversion. That kind of attitude was called "zeal". Those people did that because they were zeal for their God and His law. Do you have that kind of "zeal" that you intentionally or unintentionally persecute God's servants?

On the other hand, can you be filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit in the midst of all those kinds of opposition and persecution?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be ready to face with all kinds of opposition and persecution and that we still be filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
