Bible Study

Yesterday's passage shows the first time Paul stayed in a city for 1 1/2 year. Today's passage shows a major victory for Paul.

Bishop N.T. Wright's says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright):
Paul hadn't brought the case; he was the defendant. But all the same it was a major victory for him and his friends.  Not only was he vindicated; the case set a new benchmark which the Christians could hardly have dared to hope for.  in Achaea at least (central and southern Greece) Christianity could now presume to share such permitted status as the Jews enjoyed.

N.T. Wright. Acts for Everyone, Part 2. Louisville,KY:Westminster John Knox Press, 2008, p.103.

Did this major victory has anything related to Paul's 1 1/2 year in Corinth? Was it worthwhile for Paul to work hard to train those Corinthians for such a long time?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: A major victory for Paul

What I received from Jesus today is an encouragement to those leaders who have spent much time to train Christians, just like what Paul did. Jesus gave me a passage today:
And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.                                  Galatians 6:9

Lots of time we are discouraged after spending quite an amount of time to train and raise up leaders. Sometimes I feel like a Chinese saying:
Pulling a cow to climb a tree
Yes, lots of time it seems mission impossible! But, 1 1/2 year of time to get a major victory for Paul, not bad.

Let us be encouraged that we need to spend more time to train and raise up leaders. Don't give up! For in due season we will reap!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be willing to spend more time to train and raise up more disciples for you to extend your Kingdom. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
