Bible Study

This passage concludes the 3rd missionary journey with Paul arriving at Jerusalem at last. Two times in this passage that Paul was being warned not to go to Jerusalem. The two warnings are being described by Luke as from the Holy Spirit. Was that a warning or was that a preparation? To those who wanted to stop Paul from going to Jerusalem it was a warning. But to Paul, it was a preparation. What's the use of this preparation?

Bishop N.T. Wright's says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright):
Sometimes, it seems, the spirit gives people enough information to know what is likely to await them but leaves them with the responsibility of deciding whether or not to go anyway.  And Paul was settled in his mind: he had to go...
As he says (verse 13), he is ready not only to be tied up but to die in Jerusalem if that is God's will, and if it will bring honour to the name of the Lord Jesus.  And eventually the whole party agrees with him, in the words of the Lord's prayer, and in the words which echo what Jesus himself said in Gethsemane: the Lord's will be done.

N.T. Wright. Acts for Everyone, Part 2. Louisville,KY:Westminster John Knox Press, 2008, p.141.

If you were Paul, would you have that kind of readiness to let God's will be done and not insisting on your own way? If you were facing a similar situation that you do not want that to happen but knowing that God wants that to happen, do you have the faith and courage to say: the Lord's will be done?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: The Lord's will be done!

What I received from Jesus is a key to overcome a crisis. Especially the final crisis - death. We can learn a lot from this passage of how we can get this key so that next time when there is a crisis we know how to deal with it:
1. The Holy Spirit will have His own way to reveal to you what is going to happen so that you can be prepared. We can see clearly here in this passage there were two times, in verse 4 and verse 11.

2. You have your free will whether to let the Lord's will be done or to let your will be done. The result will be totally different!

3. Only if you have a daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus that you can have point 1 happen to you and you will have the right choice in point 2.

So, if you are in a similar crisis today, don't worry any more. Jesus is preparing you to take the challenge. What you need is a total faith to tell Him, "May your Will be done!"

Dear Lord Jesus,
Remove all our fears away and lead us to follow the example of you and Paul to let your will be done. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
