Bible Study
Paul uses several Old Testament passages to show how God's word has not failed and the contrast of being cast away as Sodom and Gomorrah or saved as the remnant:



Hosea 2:23    from "not my people" to "my people"
                   from "not beloved" to "beloved"
Hosea 1:10    from "not my people" to "sons of the living God"
Isaiah 10:22  from "like the sand on the seashore" to "a remnant"
Isaiah 1:9     from "like Sodom and Gomorrah" to "a remnant"

     Paul is rounding off what we might call 'Israel's story so far' by quoting Old Testament prophets to show that what has now happened, with most Jews remaining outside God's renewed people and only a remnant inside it, is exactly what God had said would happen. He has made his main point: God's word has not failed...
    Israel finds itself called to a particular, and very strange, role in God's purpose- that of being apparently cast away in order that God's powerful plan of salvation can go forwards.

    So, which group of people do you belong to? Those being cast away? Or, those being saved - the remnant? How can we help more people to be saved and not being cast away?

     What I heard from Jesus today is: Cast away? Saved?  

    What I got from Jesus today is such a frightening message. It is purely God's mercy to allow so many people remain outside God's family. To a certain extend, human beings really can stop God's plan to them. That's how the prodigal son can make a decision to leave home and never come home. But, God has a deadline and His own timing. When God acts, no one can stop. When God acts, we have only one choice: to be cast away or to be saved as the remnant.

    Make up your mind before it is too late! Help more people to make up their minds before it is too late! We might not have much time!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us not to be cast away and be willing to use everything we have got to help more people to be saved. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
