Paul explains in depth about the issue of mature Christians and infants in Christ.

Bishop N.T. Wright's says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
The word Paul uses which we translate 'merely human' is a tricky one.  Other writers of the time use it in a variety of ways.  Paul may himself be picking it up from things the Corinthians, or others, are saying, in order to turn it back and make it serve his purpose rather than theirs.  But the basic difference he is describing is between people in whom God's spirit has come to dwell, opening them up to new depths and dimensions of truth and experience, and people who are living as though the world, and human life, was rumbling along in the same old way.  They may think they're very sophisticated, but in reality they are 'merely human'.
The word he actually uses could be translated 'soul-ish' as opposed to 'spiritual' - meaning someone who is directed and led simply by the ordinary human interior life ('soul') rather than by the fresh, gospel-driven wisdom or energy given by God's spirit.  Such a person (2:14) simply can't understand what's going on when the talk turns to the deeper things of the spirit.

So, are you Soul-ish or Spiritual? How do you know whether you are Soul-ish or Spiritual?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: Are you Soul-ish or Spiritual

What I got from Jesus today is another challenging question to test whether we are a mature Christian or just an infant

Actually it is not difficult to know but it is difficult to live out in your daily life. According to Paul, if we are Soul-ish then:
1. We have jealousy and quarreling among us
2. We follow our favorite top leader as lord but not Jesus as Lord
3. We can not understand spiritual things

    Are you Soul-ish or Spiritual?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to follow you each day and be filled by the Holy Spirit that we can really become a faithful and mature disciple of you and that we can become spiritual but not soul-ish.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
