Bible Study

Today's passage is a continuation of yesterday's message about the importance of the blood of Jesus. The author of Hebrews says, 'No blood, no forgiveness.' What is that about?

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
The blood of the animals was saying, in relation to every possible aspect of the Israelites' regular relationship with God, 'All this happens because I love you enough to give my own self, my own life, for you.' The animals are not just, it seems, representing the people who come to worship; they stand as a gift from God to his people, with their death (symbolized by the poured-out lifeblood) as a sign of God's own self-sacrificial love.

N.T. Wright. Hebrews for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.100.

Do you know Jesus shed His blood for you? Without His blood, our sins won't be forgiven? Without His giving His life to us, we cannot restore our broken relationship with God? How does that sounds to you? What inspiration have you got today?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: You can take my life, not my money!

The message I got from Jesus today is to remind me of someone's respond to my call to make a special offering so that our church won't have deficit two years ago. A leader came forward just a few weeks ago to bear testimony on her respond to my call. She said, "When I heard Bishop Silas announced that in the church during a Sunday service to make a beyond our ability offering, my respond deep down in my heart is that "You can take my life, not my money!" But, after sometimes the Holy Spirit revealed to me that I was wrong and I did make a large amount offering beyond my ability." Two years ago, we estimated to have a $100,000 deficit, but because lots of our brothers and sisters were willing to respond to this call, we had a $30,000 surplus instead.

Do you know the Israelites needed to pay a lot of money to buy animals for their offering? Their money just gone like that when they made an offering. But, the blood symbolized forgiveness of God and acceptance from God.

There may be some people who want to say, "You can take my life, not my money!" But, God would like to hear us saying, "You can take my money, my life, my everything. I love you Jesus because you give your life to me!"

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be willing to give more and more to you, even our lives so that more people can experience care, love, forgiveness and life. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
