Bible Study

From warning about those false teachers in the last chapter to the warning of the end of the world and the returning of Christ, Peter wants his readers to understand how patient God is and how we need to have more patience to do God's work.

Let's take a look at what Bishop N.T. Wright says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :

The point here, which will be developed in the final section of the letter, is about patience.  This, virtue, as we have often seen, was emphasized by many early Christian writers, partly because it is always necessary in ordinary human relationship and partly because it was, for most of them, quite a new idea.  Patience wasn't seen as a virtue in the ancient pagan world…
God will indeed bring upon the whole world 'the day of the Lord', the day when all will be judged, all will be revealed.  But he will do that in his own time.

N.T. Wright. The Early Christian Letters for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.120-121.

So, let's have a total trust in God's timing and in the mean time we need to exercise more patience.

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Have more patience

The message I got from Jesus today is a comfort as well as warning. When we talk about comfort as the purpose of this passage, it is to teach us to have more patience with all people, including those false teachers. We have a Chinese saying teaching us similar patience:
The longer distance can tell whether it is a good horse,
The longer period of time will show the hearts of people.

We need to have more patience to get over with all those darkness and bitterness when we are attack by false teachers. God will have His own time to give you vindication.

    More patience!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to have more patience so that more people can be saved through us. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
