Bible Study

Today's passage seems not so important because it seems a kind of description of what happened to Noah and his family after he built the ark and the forty days in the ark. In fact, it is an inspiring passage for us to understand how we can be protected by God if we learn how to listen and obey.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

...once everyone is on board God shut Noah in, like the steward on an aircraft making sure the door is secure…it is God who makes sure that Noah, his family, and his cargo are safe and sound.

John Goldingay. Genesis for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.105.

For me, today's passage gives me lots of thinking, inspiration. How about you?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: You can save your whole family

The message I receive from Jesus today is something you can never think of when reading this passage. Let me tell you what I receive from Jesus:
1. If I do the similar thing as Noah did, would my wife, our two sons and daughter-in-law follow? Or, would they think that I am mad and shut me in a mental hospital?  The kind of total trust and total obedience that Noah got from his family demonstrates the important role of a husband and father.

2. How could Noah have that kind of total trust and total obedience from his family members? You can see that in a simple way in the last verse of last chapter and verse 5 of this chapter:

Noah did this; he did all that God commanded him.         Genesis 6: 22

And Noah did all that the Lord had commanded him.          Genesis 7: 5

Noah lived out the total trust and total obedience to God, then God used Noah's good example to have his family members to had a total trust and total obedience to Noah.

3. How could all those creatures go in the ark including lions, leopards and many wild animals? Those animals could listen and obey in that situation? Not all, but only those who were called by God. Strange!

4. Noah's total trust and total obedience saved his whole family. Why? Because our total trust and total obedience lead us into God's protection. Noah was not being shut in a mental hospital (if there was one at that time) but God shut him in the ark to be in His protection and to save Noah's family and all those creatures.

Do you know you can save your whole family if you have a close relationship with Jesus so that you can have your total trust and total obedience when the test comes. Each test brings you to be closer to the possibility to have a total trust and total obedience to God.

Why not start with the most simple and easy way first. To many Christians, even the most simple and easy way they won't do. Hope you can start with that. And, that is:
1. To be with Jesus through this blog/podcast daily, really daily, including Sundays.

2. To offer 10% of what you have (that is tithing) to your home church through weekly/monthly offering according to the basic teaching of the Bible.

If you can't even listen and obey to this most basic command of God, you would never taste the sweetness and power of real listen and obey.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to do the first thing first to learn how to listen and obey to you so that we can be able to save our whole family just like what Noah did. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
