What a frightening topic today from Professor John Goldingay "And a time for war". Oh, can we avoid war! Most of the time we can, but sometimes we can't. Lot got into the centre of a severe war, and Abraham had his obligation to defend and support him.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

Within the family you do not have a covenant; Being in the same family implies a mutual commitment.  There is such a family commitment between Abraham and Lot, and another one between Mamre, Eshkol, and Aner as "brother," perhaps in that broader sense of members of the same extended family.  But in addition, Abraham on one side and these three brothers on the other have entered into a committed covenant relationship with one another.  They will not take advantage of one another, and they will defend and support one another in practical ways.

John Goldingay. Genesis for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.160.

If you are at war, what do you think you need to do?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: And a time for war

What I got from Jesus today is how to deal with warfare in a wise, safe and Godly way.

The two key words that Jesus gives me today are: Family, Covenant

We as family members and brothers and sisters in covenant relationship need to defend and support one another in practical ways. If not, everyone might die.

Do you know that Satan whose name is Deceiver, Anger Bringer, Separator and Destroyer always want to stir up warfare in your family and your church. If that happen, you have the obligation to take action, rise up to defend and support your brothers and sisters so that your family and church would not be destroyed.

After all, when war happens, all people are victims, only Satan wins!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us each day to follow you to defend and support our brothers and sisters so that our families and churches would not be destroyed and that we can bring love, peace and joy to our families, churches and nations. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
