Bible Study

We are talking about Abram going to war in yesterday's passage as well as today. That was four thousands years ago. But just two hundreds ago, the President of United States, Abraham Lincoln was being asked a question when he was at war in the American Civil War, "Mr. President, which side is God on in this war?" Abraham replied, "I don't know which side is God on, but I know the most important thing is that whether we are on God's side." That's perhaps is the most important thing we need to learn in this passage.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

Melchizedek offers Abraham not just refreshment but celebration.  Perhaps he does that with the food, too, because the word for "bread" often means "food" more generally.
Melchizedek comes out to celebrate with Abraham and bless him because Melchizedek is "priest of God Most High," …at least, this is implied by Abraham's interaction with Melchizedek.

If you are at war, what do you think you need to do?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: God with you at war

What I got from Jesus today is the second part of the message about how to deal with warfare in a wise, safe and Godly way.

Yesterday we got the two key words as "family" and "Covenant". Today, the only key word is "God".

I am not only talking about real war as in soldiers of a nation attacking another nation. I am talking about warfare and spiritual warfare all around us in our families, churches, society and nations.

This passage clearly stating that Abram had a good relationship with God's High Priest who represents the presence of God. We do not need war and we do not want to go in war with anyone. It is always Satan, the Destroyer's cunning plan to destroy a family or a church or more. But, if we have to take action just as Abram knew that he had to take action. We need two things:

     God and Allied (verse 13).

If you are being attacked, do you think you have God and your Godly allied on your side so that the Destroyer do not have a way to destroy you? Are you willing to come out to help your leader so that he would not be destroyed by the Destroyer as in the similar situation of today's passage?

If we are on God's side, we don't need a lot of people. Just like Abram, he had only 318 trained men born in his household and he could win the four mighty kings. That is a miracle! Are you willing to be amount those 318 trained people to protect your leader? Actually, our leaders in Canada was being attacked by terrorists yesterday in Ottawa. Are you those who are willing to pray for Stephen Harper our Prime Minister, our MPs and other leaders each day to protect them with our prayer shield. Do you know that is a command from the Bible that we need to pray for them?

I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.         1 Timothy 2: 1-2

Do you know you need to pray for your pastors in your church each day because they are the first target that the Destroyer want to take out.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us each day to follow you to defend and support our brothers and sisters so that our families and churches would not be destroyed and that we can bring love, peace and joy to our families, churches and nations. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
