You may think that Abram did not trust God so he asked for more signs. It might not be that. You need to know Abram was not asking why but how. What is the difference between asking why and how? What do you think?

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

When God reaffirms the promise about giving Abraham the country of Canaan, Abraham responds by asking, "But how can I know that?"  This is definitely not the response we expect from the man who has just made the act of faith that so impressed people such as Paul…
One might therefore expect God to say, "Excuse me?" Typically, God leans into the wind, says, "OK," and commissions Abraham to assemble an impressive collection of animals.  Something like a coma and a frightening deep darkness fall on Abraham, subjective and objective signs that something awe inspiring is to follow.

John Goldingay. Genesis for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.175.

Do you know you are allow to ask "how"? Because that is a very personal question, right?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: If you trust my promise, I will show you more

What I got from Jesus today are two very short statements for you to think of and be willing to totally trust God's personal promise:

If you trust my promise, I will show you more

If you don't trust my promise, no more

Such a short message, right? And I trust that it is from our Lord to you. What have you got? What is your response? How could this change your life?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to trust your personal promise so that we can be strengthened and be ready to do your Kingdom ministry. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
