Bible Study

There are three main messages in this passage today. The first one is about how merciful God always is to wait for the Amorites to turn from their wrongdoing and us from our wrongdoing. The second one is that how large Abraham's  territory can be as well as the territory God gives us. The third is how God walking through those animals to show God is willing to allow that to happen to Him.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

And with Israel in later centuries, God waited for generations before finally declaring, "Enough!"…Usually, you do not get judged as soon as you do something wrong; God likes to wait to see if you may turn from your wrongdoing.  Perhaps God has already been waiting and longing in connection with the Amorites/Canaanites…God is not yet willing to throw them out of the country. So Abraham will have to wait.  It would not be fair to throw them out at the moment
God promises Abraham's descendants a domain extending from the Nile to the Euphrates.  This would include much of Egypt as well as Mesopotamia, which must have made Abraham's eyes widen.  Solomon's realm did come close to having such an extent, but within the Old Testament there are various different accounts of how extensive Israel's country is to be
By means of the ritual described here, God is saying, "As I walk between the parts of these animals, I say, 'May the same thing happen to me as happens to these animals if I do not keep my promises to Abraham.'"  That is how far God will go to give Abraham a sign that the promise really will be fulfilled.  God will not be able to get out of it, because it would involve risking God's own life.

What have you got from today's three messages? Do you know how much you are being blessed and how much God loves you?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: You broke the covenant, I die for you

What I got from Jesus today is such a moving message. We as human beings always live in a rebellious life and don't care whether someday God will say, "Enough!" And, you never know how terrible it could be when God says ENOUGH!

Because of our weakness, we miss God's blessing. It's just like you can have a whole birthday cake but now you can have only a small piece. And, you don't care of that whole cake because you think you don't need that. It is not only for you, the territory the Lord prepares is for you to share to other people, not only to you. Taking every blessing for yourself is call GREED!

Jesus died for our sins when we broke the covenant. Let's rise up and re-build this covenantal relationship with God so that we can receive all those blessings waiting for us to take, that is Kingdom growth, Kingdom ministry and Kingdom authority!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for your Cross. Lead us to walk with you each day so that we can have the whole birthday cake and not just a small piece so that we can bless other people. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
