Bible Study

Is this chapter talking about dreams, the interpretation of dreams? I don't think so. This chapter is to tell us that God can do anything to help His servants and one of many ways is through dreams and the gift to interpret dreams.

The key passages of this chapter are two:
1.  They said to him, “We have had dreams, and there is no one to interpret them.” And Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Please tell them to me.”              Genesis 40:8

2.  Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.  Genesis 40:23

What have you got from these two passages? Do you have any new insight?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Don't forget God's Work on You

What Jesus tells me today is a warning and a reminder that we so often forget God's work and those people who God sends to help us.

So, the two key passages I gave above give us two key messages:
1.  God can do this, not me
2.  Don't forget God's work and God's servants who have helped you

     The reality is not that:
1. Lots of time when we are being raised up as gifted and powerful servants of God we forget everything is from God. And, we think that we can do this and do that, without honouring God and letting God to do His mighty work. We lose our ability gradually and our boundaries are smaller and smaller. We need to remember that God can do anything, not us. We are not the Saviour, Jesus is the Saviour. Jesus reminds me now one of my most favourite Bible verses. The movie "Chariots of Fire" has a good message on this verse:

"Those who honour me I will honour."    1 Samuel 2:30

2.  We have been helped by lots of God's servants. But, we often forget how the Lord used them to bless us. Sometimes, we break relationship with those friends or even betray them like what Judah did to Jesus.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to remember those friends you send who have helped us so that we can honour you as well as those people. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
