Bible Study

Today's passage is the second account of God's commissioning Moses. We already read the first account in Exodus 3:1-4:17. In this second account, God recalls His covenant with Israel's ancestors. The time has come after 430 years that God is going to do something to His promise. God is going to restore everything if the Israelites are willing to go back to the mutual relationship as shown in a marriage with God.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

The mutuality is seen, for example, in God's self-giving to us and ours to God, God's self-surrender to us and ours to God, God's commitment to us and ours to God.
That is the form of relationship described in this second account of God's commissioning Moses
The time has come to do something about the promise this covenant involved.  But there was nothing very mutual about that covenant.  All God was doing was making a promise for the future.  All the ancestors had to do was implement the sign of circumcision.
Covenants do not have to be mutual, but now God is going to introduce mutuality into the covenant, making it more like a marriage.  This is now possible because God is making the covenant not merely promise but actuality
In speaking of covenant action, God introduces another key word, restore.  Leviticus 25 and 27 will talk about the way restoration works in the human family, but Exodus 6 and 16 first talk about God's acting as restorer.

Do you have something bad happening to you that you would like God to restore? How do you experience God being your Restorer?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Only Jesus can restore everything

What I receive from Jesus today is a call for us to go back to the relationship with God as in a marriage so that God can restore everything.

Recently God used me to help quite a number of people to get back to a personal intimate relationship with Jesus so that everything can be restore. I have seen marriage being restored, friendship being restored and everything being restored because those people are willing to repent, to acknowledge their wickedness and brokenness. When they are willing to let Jesus to be their Lord again, everything restored!

I have also seen some people do not agree to go back to that mutual marriage relationship with God and things stay as is. Nothing being restored, darkness, doubt, anger and every bad thing you can image stay!

    Only Jesus can restore everything!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to understand that only you can restore everything. Lead us to be willing to go back to that mutual marriage relationship with you so that everything will be restored. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
