OT DAY 419 - The Consequence of Not Delivering God's Warning (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

       Praise the Lord!
        For it is good to sing praises to our God;
for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting.
                    Psalm 147:1

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (1 Samuel 4:1-22)

English(ESV): https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Samuel+4&version=ESV

16 And the man said to Eli, “I am he who has come from the battle; I fled from the battle today.” And he said, “How did it go, my son?” 17 He who brought the news answered and said, “Israel has fled before the Philistines, and there has also been a great defeat among the people. Your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been captured.” 18 As soon as he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell over backward from his seat by the side of the gate, and his neck was broken and he died, for the man was old and heavy. He had judged Israel forty years.

                                 1   Samuel 4: 16-18

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening

If you have not read my blog yesterday, you need to click this link to read that first: http://discipler123.blogspot.ca/2016/01/ot-day-418-there-would-be-things-that.html
Terrible ending of Eli as the top religious leader for all the Israelites. God gave him lots of warning, first personal, then through Samuel, then through war, and he did not get that. He did not disciplined his two sons who were so bad. He did not repent of his own sins not listen and obey to God.

Jesus reminds me of a terrible passage in the Bible about the job of a prophet. When a prophet receives message to give warning to someone. If he does take action to warn that person, that person die but the prophet does not die. If he does not take action to warn that person, both of them die! Wow!

       Let's read this passage now:

“So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.            Ezekiel 33:7-9

Do you think you have the courage to deliver those warning to those people God wants you to deliver? How can you be so sure that that is from God? What if you play the role of "judge" pouring down judges and bitterness onto those people you do not like or have hurt you?

I know it is difficult. That's why most people do not want to do that. But, they do not know the consequence of not delivering God's warning is so severe!

I do not have an answer for you today. I think it all depends on your relationship with God!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to have a trustful and intimate relationship with you so that we can be able to discern whether it is really you who commands us to deliver some difficult messages to those people you prepare for us to tell. Help us to know the consequence of not delivering Your warning is very severe. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
1. Do you think not being able to deliver God's warning is really so severe? What has that to do with you?

2. Do you have anything you need to repent so that you do not follow Eli's path? Do you have the courage to deliver God's warning now if there is any from God?

3. What have you got from Jesus today?
