                                     Psalm 29:1-2

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (1 Kings 21:17-26)

17 Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 18 “Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who is in Samaria; behold, he is in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone to take possession. 19 And you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord, “Have you killed and also taken possession?”’ And you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the Lord“In the place where dogs licked up the blood of Naboth shall dogs lick your own blood.”’”
20 Ahab said to Elijah, “Have you found me, O my enemy?” He answered, “I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do what is evil in the sight of theLord. 21 Behold, I will bring disaster upon you. I will utterly burn you up, and will cut off from Ahab every male, bond or free, in Israel. 22 And I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, for the anger to which you have provoked me, and because you have made Israel to sin. 23 And of Jezebel the Lord also said, ‘The dogs shall eat Jezebel within the walls of Jezreel.’ 24 Anyone belonging to Ahab who dies in the city the dogs shall eat, and anyone of his who dies in the open country the birds of the heavens shall eat.”
25 (There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited. 26 He acted very abominably in going after idols, as the Amorites had done, whom the Lord cast out before the people of Israel.)
                                         1 Kings 21:17-26

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

We can see clearly the pride in king Ahab who is also greedy and wicked. Do you think this kind of greedy, wicked man who is full of pride have any chance to get away from God's punishment?
           Yes, Ahab has a chance!
Just like God sent Nathan rebukes David, God sent Elijah to rebuke Ahab. The punishment that Elijah prophesied is so severe that most wicked people would not believe that could happen to them. Most people won't listen to a prophet's rebuke and warning!
If you were Ahab who had the most wicked queen Jezebel on your side, what would you react to Elijah's warning? Especially you have been trying all your best to chase him wanting to kill him. And, now the one you want to kill stand in front of you!
Today's passage is not only about king Ahab, also about you, about me. How can we be willing to listen to those prophets God sends to warn us, to give us direction and to give us signs so that we can turn back from our own path back to God's prepared path!

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be humble and not be swallowed by our own pride not listening to the warning and instruction of your servants. Give us a chance to repent and return to your path and not insisting on our own way, our own path.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
   1. If you were Ahab, what would you react after Elijah warned you?

2. How willing are you to listen and obey to God's servants instructions?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
