OT DAY 563 - Same Wicked Path as His Father, Really OK? (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
and you give them drink from the river of your delights.

                                     Psalm 36:7-8

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 21:19-26)

19 Amon was twenty-two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. 20 And he did what was evil in the sight of the Lordas Manasseh his father had done. 21 He walked in all the way in which his father walked and served the idols that his father served and worshiped them. 22 He abandoned the Lord, the God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the Lord. 23 And the servants of Amon conspired against him and put the king to death in his house. 24 But the people of the land struck down all those who had conspired against King Amon, and the people of the land made Josiah his son king in his place. 25 Now the rest of the acts of Amon that he did, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah? 26 And he was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza, and Josiah his son reigned in his place.
                                           2 Kings 21:19-26
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

Let me ask you one question?
Why King Amon followed his wicked father's footstep to continue to be a wicked king?
My catch is that Amon's father King Manasseh had been king of Judah for 55 years! 55 years! If I were Amon, I would have thought that since my father could have 55 years as king, it should be OK to follow his footstep.
Wrong! King Amon got only two years and then he was being assassinated by his own officials.
God gave time for King Manasseh to repent and he did not. God did not give time for King Amon and he died young, only 24 years old.
We need to know God has a bottom line and when God's time comes, it is done. Let's cherish each day to walk with God and to be willing to use all we have to glorify His Holy Name.

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to cherish each day to be a glorious day with you as our Lord and King. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
   1. What do you think is the reason for King Amon to follow his father's footstep to be a wicked king?

2. What kind of lesson do you think his son would learn?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
