OT DAY 564 - Two Generations of Sin, Cut and Removed (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
and you give them drink from the river of your delights.

                                     Psalm 36:7-8

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 22:1-7)

Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah ofBozkath. And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the way of David his father, and he did not turn aside to the right or to the left.
In the eighteenth year of King Josiah, the king sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, son of Meshullam, the secretary, to the house of the Lord, saying, “Go up toHilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money that has been brought into the house of the Lord, which the keepers of the threshold have collected from the people. And let it be given into the hand of the workmen who have the oversight of the house of the Lord, and let them give it to the workmen who are at the house of the Lord, repairing the house (that is, to the carpenters, and to the builders, and to the masons), and let them use it for buying timber and quarried stone to repair the house. But no accounting shall be asked from them for the money that is delivered into their hand, for they deal honestly.”
                                           2 Kings 22:1-7
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

If your grandfather a sinful man, and you father also a sinful man, do you think you would be just like them? Do you think what Exodus 20:5 "You shall not bow down to the idols or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me…" would happen in you?
I think the answer is YES, and what I have seen and what I have experienced is a YES too!
So, to be a good King and did what is right in the eyes of the Lord and walked in all the ways of his great-great-great-…grandfather David, not turning aside to the right or to the left is almost not possible!
What is King Josiah's first step to show that the sins of two generations could be cut off?
I think King Josiah started with his heart turning to the glory of God's temple. There was no one to take care of God's temple yet there was money that they collected and no one took the money to repair God's temple!
Is this a small act? Yes, start with a small act towards God and then God will show him the next step.
What is your small act towards God so that you can receive God's great act to renew your life and beyond?

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Open our eyes to see the need of your church so that your mighty work will start to work in us and through us to renew your people.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

   Reflect on these questions:
   1. What do you think is the bad influence of your past two generations?

2. What is your next step to do something for your own church?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
