OT DAY 568 - To Return to God, You Need to Say YES to Prophetic Voice (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

       For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.

                                                             Psalm 36:9

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 23:1-3)

Then the king sent, and all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem were gathered to him. And the king went up to the house of the Lord, and with him all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the prophets, all the people, both small and great. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant that had been found in the house of the Lord. And the king stoodby the pillar and made a covenant before the Lordto walk after the Lord and to keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people joined in the covenant.
                                           2 Kings 23:1-8
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

It is so good to have a prophet to tell you what you need to do.
But, was there not any prophet telling those people what God wanted them to do? No, there were a number of prophets, Jeremiah was among those prophets.

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
As The casual way the story refers to Huldah indicates that it takes for granted the activity of female as well as male prophets. Huldah has temple connections, and if she was involved in ministry in the temple, this would explain the fact that Hilkiah would go to her rather than someone better known to us such as Jeremiah.

John Goldingay. 1 and 2 Kings for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.182.

Someone told me yesterday after listening and reading my podcast and blog that it is so good that God's people in Old Testament time had prophets to tell them what to do and we do not have those prophets now and lots of time do not know what to do.
What I need to say is that this thinking is wrong! Actually we have more prophetic servants of God in nowadays than in Old Testament time because that is one of the main purpose the Holy Spirit has been doing since Pentecost. The problem is that most people do not want to listen to those prophetic voices! Sad!
I do hope and pray that you would listen to someone who speaks to you in the name of Jesus and that you have the gift to discern his or her word or invitation is from Jesus Himself!
I do hope and pray that you will say, "YES!" the next time you hear that voice!

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be able to discern whether that is your voice through someone to us and be able to say YES. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. How do you know that someone's voice is a prophetic voice?

2. How do you respond to a prophetic voice usually?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
