Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

My Listening

The message I got today from our Lord Jesus Christ is "If you have experienced God's presence, protection and provision, then you will tithe".

Today's Genesis passage may be one of the best passages in the Bible to tell us why we as sons and daughters of God need to give one tenth of what we have to God.

We can clearly see in Genesis 28:13-15 God told Jacob in a powerful dream that He is the God of his grandfather Abraham and the God of his father Isaac. God had three promises to Jacob:
        1. My presence: I am with you (28:15)
        2. My protection: I will watch over you (28:15)
        3. My provision: I will give you...(28:13-14); I will bring you back (28:15)

Wow! Then Jacob's respond to God's promise is to urge for that promises:
        1. His presence: If God will be with me (28:20)
        2. His protection: If God will watch over me (28:20)
        3. His provision: If God will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father's house.

So, if all that happened! Then:
        1. The Lord will be my God
        2. This stone is not from one of my dreams but my experience of God in His House, Bethel
       3.  I will give you a tenth of what I have from then on

I am very sure Jacob knew that his grandfather Abraham started tithing in the very early stage as describes in Genesis 14:20 that Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of everything. And Jacob knew Abraham offered 100% to God by willing to sacrifice Jacob's father Isaac. So, Jacob knew how important tithing, offering and worshipping is but that was just what his grandfather and father did, not he. He would say, "No way, not me!" That's the thoughts of so many Christians!

I have been a priest for thirty years, one of the most important thing for me to teach God's people are daily devotion and tithing! Today's passage give us an answer why daily devotion and tithing is so difficult to teach. Do you want to hear about that?

It is because quite a number of people of God experience God from their grandparents, their parents, their pastors, their friends and not themselves personally. That's why so many Christians say they have not heard from God but just want to learn what God's word is.

If you have experienced God's presence, protection and provision, then you will surely tithe and you will surely have daily devotion. I do hope you understand and agree and say, "Amen!"

       Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be willing to be close to you each day, each morning and be willing to give one tenth of what we have to you.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

    Reflect on these questions:
   1.  Do you have a problem of having daily devotion and tithing? Do you know why?

    2. Are you going to change and be willing to have daily devotion, a daily intimate relationship with the Lord and be willing to tithe?

    3. What have you received from Jesus today?

Let us praise the Lord:
