Bible Study

Paul reminds the Ephesians to get away from the lifestyle of darkness and enter into the light to find out God's will so that they live a life pleasing to the Lord. The secret to have this new change and enjoy this new life is singing.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
The singing that Paul has in mind is the ultimate antidote to living in the darkness of immorality that pervades the surrounding world…
Let the spirit fill your hearts and lives, particularly your minds and imaginations.  Use all the resources of the rich Christian tradition - its poems, its pictures, its liturgies, its hymns - to help you do so.

Do you agree that singing is the ultimate antidote to living in the darkness of immorality? How well can you sing your praises to Jesus? How often do you sing your praises?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Singing, an ultimate antidote

What I got from Jesus today is a practical and proven way to get away from living in darkness. I have been using this special weapon since the 80's. I still remember when I was so lonely studying my M. Div. at Nashotah House, Wisconsin in 1984, the only way for me to get rid of the loneliness and darkness was the time I knelt in front of the Jesus' Chapel singing that 100 top hymns I chose from the hymnal late at night. When I sang those hymns to praise the Lord in front of the reserved sacrament, I felt being uplifted and got through that darkness which could pull me into depression.

Yes, Paul get it right. Singing to praise our Lord Jesus Christ is the ultimate antidote. What is your response and action?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to sing as much as we can to praise you each day. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
