Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you." Genesis 41: 39-40
What I received from Jesus today is: Don't hide God behind your back!
How can you hide God behind your back? Nonsense! Impossible!
Well, let me challenge you, if you were Joseph would you have the courage to name God as your original source of wisdom? Have you thought this Pharaoh who did not know God could say, "I want you to help me. Don't pull your God to press me. How dare you name him three times. Stop making excuses, I know what you want to do to deceive me. Just tell me what my dream is and I will spare your life."
It was impossible for Pharaoh to raise Joseph to rule Egypt right after he listened to Joseph's interpretation of his dream. I think the only reason to explain this happening is because Joseph was willing to honor God first and name Him first. He was not afraid of anything because he just did what he was told by God.
How often do we have the courage or to catch that opportunity to name God. Often when we do that we will be accused of "hard sell"! Yes, if God do not want you to name Him and you name Him that is not only "hard sell" but you are "misusing God's name"(The third one in the Ten Commandments, Exodus 20: 7).
Be courageous, don't hide God behind your back! And, don't even think that you can hide God behind your back!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be courageous to honor your name and not ours. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

What I received from Jesus today is: The Secret of Success is to honor God first!
Success! Do you want that? You can buy so many books teaching people of all kinds of success and people buy those books and those authors get lots of money. But who know the secret of success if to honor God first?
Joseph's story is a classical, typical and powerful one of great success but his secret of success are only two:
1. God was with Him.
2. He honored God first.
That's all! If you can do that, I am sure that you will be richly blessed by God and lead a successful and fruitful life. But, you also need to know that successful according to God's eyes and not necessary according to your eyes!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to learn and be able to practice the secret of success is to be with you and to honor you first. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

One day Joseph went into the house to attend to his duties, and none of the household servants was inside. She caught him by his cloak and said, "Come to bed with me!" But he left his cloak in her hand and ran out of the house. Genesis 39: 11-12
What I received from Jesus today is: How can we not be selfish?
Wow! Today Jesus gave us a direct answer from yesterday's title "Don't be selfish!". This chapter shows a very clear opposite situation of the last two chapters. Because of the selfishness and wickedness of Joseph's ten brothers and later in his brother Judah's family, they suffered the consequence of selfishness!
Here in this chapter, because of Joseph not being selfish, greedy and wicked, he demonstrated a perfect example of what a righteousness man should be. And he showed us the only answer of how can we not be selfish. I don't think there is other answer than what this chapter wants to tell us:
The Lord was with Joseph. (v. 2)
When his master saw that the Lord was with him. (v. 3)
The Lord blessed the household of the Egyptian because of Joseph. (v. 5)
The blessing of the Lord was on everything Potiphar had. (v. 5)
But while Joseph was there in the prison, the Lord was with him. (v. 20-21)
The warden paid no attention to anything under Joseph's care, because the Lord was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did. (v. 22-23)
So, the answer is one word - Emmanuel! The Lord was with Joseph. That was the only reason he was not selfish and wicked even he was so ill-treated by his brothers and was in a lot of sufferings.
If you do not want to be a selfish Christian hurting others and yourself then you need to have a daily intimate personal relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. No other way, my friend!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be willing to have a daily intimate personal relationship with you so that we won't be stepped into the trap of becoming selfish and wicked. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

What Onan did was wicked in the Lord's sight; so he put him to death also. Judah then said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, "Live as a widow in your father's house until my son Shelah grows up." Gor he thought, "He may die too, just like his brothers." So Tamar went to live in her father's house.
Genesis 38: 10-11
What I received from Jesus today is: Don't be selfish!
This is a weird chapter! But if you read it carefully you will find that it is all about the consequence of selfishness. Started with the selfishness of Joseph's ten brothers in the last chapter. We do not know what was the cause of Judah's elder son Er, but we surely know how wicked and selfish Onan was according to verses 8 to 9. He took his brother's wife according to the tradition of the Israelites to have the offspring for his deceased brother. He had sex with his brother's wife in the name of giving his brother an offspring but he did a very wicked thing in that act. Both of Judah's sons died because of their wickedness. By the act of Onan we can guess his brother did the similar sin - selfishness which turned to wickedness!
Then, their father did the same thing because he was afraid his third son might die too so he did not give Tamar his third son to produce offspring for Er. Then he did a foolish and sinful act causing even shameful consequence! What a mess in such a family! The cause - selfishness and wickedness!
You may be selfish, just like any human beings, right?! But watch out, selfishness may turn to wickedness. And the consequence of wickedness may be beyond your imagination like what it is in this chapter!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to turn away from our selfishness and wickedness to your righteouness. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

So Joseph went after his brothers and found them near Dothan. But they saw him in the distance, and before he reached them, they plotted to kill him.
Genesis 37: 17-18
What I received from Jesus today is: Don't kill your brother!
How could Joseph ten elder brothers plotted to kill him? How could that happen? Was that because of jealousy, anger or hatred? The modern version of this kind of brothers killing brothers happen very often and it is so sad to see that happen especially to those people you know. And, especially you are the victim! The sad thing is people won't know they are killing their brothers because they have enough self-righteous reasons to justify themselves.
Don't kill your brother!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us not to kill our brothers. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

What I received from Jesus today is: Prospered materially but not spiritually!
Do you want to prosper materially and have lots of possessions like what Esau had as describes in this chapter? Well, who do not want to prosper materially. But, watch out, we can never follow Esau's way to prosper materially but not spiritually. Esau seems not interested in spiritual things like he didn't mind to sell his birthright(Gen. 25:34), He married two Hittite that upset Isaac and Rebekah(Gen. 26: 34-35, 36: 2). The nation he founded, Edom defied God and experienced frequent judgment.
Today is Boxing Day, I do hope that those gifts you cherish are more spiritual then material. Because material gifts and things will someday perish but spiritual gifts and things will flourish forever!
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to cherish more spiritual gifts and things then material one. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
