Paul explains further in this passage following yesterday's message that for those in Christ, death has no power in us.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Death gets its peculiar character, its unpleasant 'sting', through sin, the dark power that entices humans to rebellion, to turn away from God the life-giver.  And sin gets its particular power, in Paul's world, from the law.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:1 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.227.

Paul says, "Let nothing move you. Even death!" Do you think you are able to do that when death is closer and closer to you?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

What I heard from Jesus today is: Let nothing move you!

What I got from Jesus today is the key for a Christian to face with difficulties, even death.

How is it possible that nothing move us? Impossible, right? Aristotle and St. Thomas Aquinas have the thought of God as the "unmoved mover" for centuries. We can apply this thought here that the only way for us to move by nothing is that we can be carried by the "unmoved mover" to face with any difficulties, even death. Paul says, "But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." (verse 57)

Please pray for my mother as we are trying our best to help her to prepare for her unknown future, even death. She is now 87 and healthy.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to experience that you are the only unmoved mover and that in you nothing move us.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Paul explains here even for those who were eaten by the wild animals and die for Christ, they would have received the resurrection body. Many people thinks that this passage brings an argument of what kind of body could have when we die. Not so.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Throughout the passage so far, Paul has been echoing Genesis 1, where God creates the sun, the moon and the stars, and particularly trees and plants that have their seed within them.  The underlying theme of the whole chapter, remember, is new creation, new Genesis: God will complete the project he began at the beginning, and in the process he will reverse and undo the effects of human rebellion, especially death itself, the great enemy that drags God's beautiful world down into decay and dissolution.  Paul will now move to the climax of Genesis 1, the creation of human beings in God's own image (Genesis 1:26-28).  As with Jesus' resurrection, so with ours: this will not be a strange distortion of our original humanity, but will be the very thing we were made for in the first place.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:1 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.223.

How are you doing in returning to God's original purpose and that is in God's own image. One word: Christlikeness. What have you got today?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

What I heard from Jesus today is: Do you fear death? Why?

What I got from Jesus today is a very scaring question. So many people including Christians fear death causing all kinds of sadness and worries. Actually I am in the moment talking to my mother helping her to remove her fear about death. She is now 87 and she just told me her mother and grandmother all died when they were 88. So, do you know what she means? Please pray for my mother to courageously face her unknown future.

So, how can we get away from the fear of death? What I received today is a simple way that every Christian should know but cannot live out. Do you know what it is now? The more closer to Jesus, your daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus will lead you to be more Christlike. Just as Paul says in verse 49: "Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man of heaven."

The message today is very important:
To be Christlike now and will be Christlike forever.

This is what I received today. Praise the Lord! That's the key to get away from the fear of death, even to be eaten by wild beasts.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be more closer to you each day so that we would never fear death. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Bible Study

Paul wants to express his severe struggles against all those oppositions surrounding him as similar to those gladiators fighting each others to death and to be eaten by wild animals in the arena, the same as the great Colosseum in Rome. In that kind of struggles, Paul is concern of how Christians can influence those non-believers to follow the risen Christ believing in the resurrection.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Paul's own sufferings, and the dangers he faces, are a further argument (verses 30-31), leading to the passage about the metaphorical 'wild beasts'.  This then brings him, suddenly, to a quotation from the Greek poet Menander: 'bad company kills off good habits'.  What Paul is saying - and quoting a pagan poet is a heavily ironic way of making the point - is that the Corinthian Christians, who ought by now to be able to show and tell the truth of the one living God to their pagan neighbours, are instead continuing to allow the pagan thought-forms of those neighbours to distort and even deny the central beliefs they should be gladly holding.  There is a danger, as present today as it was in Paul's day, of being deceived: it is possible to allow the influence of the surrounding culture and the ideas it promotes to seep into a Christian world-view until the truth has been turned into a lie.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:1 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.218.

So, how well are you fighting this hugh spiritual warfare? Are you able to change some of your relatives and friends worldly value or are you being changed by them to be world-like and not Christ-like?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

What I heard from Jesus today is: How could the wild beasts eat you up?

What I got from Jesus today is a warning of how we could be eaten up by the worldly culture and values just like the wild beasts in the arena. It depends on who our company is. If we are not careful and be willing to be surrounded by bad company, then in times, our lifestyle of Christlikeness would be totally destroyed or we can never establish a lifestyle of Christlikeness.

Just give you an example. Michelle and I were having lunch with a good friend yesterday. She was talking about her bad luck lately and then said, "Touch wood! Touch wood!" I smiled and said, "Which kind of wood are your referring to that can keep bad luck coming to you? Are you worshiping that wood so that it can give you good luck? Ha, ha, ha!" She said, "Oh! I have never thought of to say "touch wood" is not a Christian should say. You are right. I need to be carful more about this casual worldly saying. Thank you for reminding me!" She is a good Christian but in recent years are surrounded by all kinds of worldly culture and friends making her to think and act more worldly but not Christlike.

So, this is how the wild beasts might eat you up until the truth and Jesus is away from you! Watch out!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be focus on you, have good company so that we won't be eaten up by the worldly wild beasts surrounding us each day. Protect us and guide us Lord! In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
