Bible Study

In the last passage, Paul talks about some strong Christians misuse the 'freedoms' and 'rights'. They did anything they wanted to by returning to their old lifestyle of paganism by worshiping idols, having sexual immorality, testing whether God is capable of looking after them and having lots of grumble.

Here in this passage, Paul says that for those Christians, they were not worshiping God but worshiping demons. Wow! Paul is talking about demons and the evil power of demons.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
When Paul speaks of 'demons' as being involved when idols are worshipped, he doesn't think of such beings as somehow equal and opposite to God or the Messiah.  These are semi-personal spiritual 'forces' or 'powers'. To see them still at work today you only have to look at what happens when people allow money, or war, or sex, to drive them in directions they would never ordinarily dream of going.  Some recent writers have pointed out that large corporations or businesses have a sense of a 'force' that's driving them, imposing its will, despite the fact that most of the people sitting behind desks may not really intend to go that way.  Once you invoke the powers, they may well take over.
We are rediscovering in our own day even in the secularized Western world, that there are evil forces, that it's possible for humans to give them power by worshipping them, and that the whole subculture of idol-worship, drunken orgies and the like is the kind of seedbed in which that power grows best.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:1 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.132-133.

Wow! Can you imagine some so called strong Christians in Corinth did that because they thought they had the 'freedoms' and 'rights' to do anything? Can you imagine nowadays we still have similar strong Christians doing the same thing thinking that they can both worship God and demons?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

What I heard from Jesus today is: Worshiping demons?

What I got from Jesus today is a warning to all of us to watch out not to step into the traps of Satan to misuse our 'freedoms' and 'rights' thinking that we can do anything, even going back to our old lifestyle, showing our old-self or even going into some kind of lifestyle similar to worshiping the demons.

I do not want to name all those evil lifestyles because it is useless. The best way for you to know that what you are doing is improper is our daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus. With that relationship with Jesus, the Holy Sprit has a better position to shine on you that you can see your darkness and filthiness.

When the Holy Spirit comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment.             John 16:8

Come near to God and he will come near to you.          James 4:8

There is no way we can fall into the practice of worshiping demons. Unless, we come near to the practice and power of the demons. What Paul wants us to know is that our pride may lead us to do that. Our pride will pull us into that kind of darkness. Our repentance will lead us back to the light of the Kingdom. Choose wisely!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to worship you whole-heartedly. Help us that we can be closer and closer to you each day that we won't be pulled by the devil into darkness. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
