There are times in our lives when we hear some messages from God we think that He must be joking. "What? You want me to leave that? Are you joking?"

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

Perhaps the implication is that the two aides were by no means the first to receive the kind of welcome the city wishes to give them, and others would not have the supernatural powers of defence that these two had.  The scene provides compelling evidence for the truth of the aides'  exhortation to Lot that he needs to get out of here.  Yet this is not how it seems to his sons-in-law
There is another irony in their assuming that Lot was only joking, because they use the verb "laugh" that has a prominent place in these stories.  Sarah thought God was only joking in promising her a son; these young men think Lot is only joking in warning of disaster.

Do you think God was joking when someone told you that you got to change your attitude, or stop doing something?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Get out! Run! God is not joking!

What I got from Jesus today is something we need to be aware of. Usually when someone gives us a kind of  serious warning, most of the time we won't believe or even think that that is a joke.

I still remember when I got a word of prophecy "Exodus" in January 2002 to urge churches to get out of the Anglican Church of Canada, many leaders including clergy thought that I was joking. Praise the Lord that at last everyone decided in half a year's time that it was not joking but a word of prophecy from our Lord Jesus Christ and now we have Anglican Mission - Canada and Anglican Network in Canada with more than 60 churches.

When God speaks through angels as in today's passage or through God's servants, He is not joking. Those who think God is joking would suffer a lot if they don't get out and run! I have seen quite a number of people suffer a lot because they really thought God was joking.

The question is, how do you have that kind of intimate relationship with Jesus that you know that Jesus is speaking to you. Because if you have that relationship, you surely know that God won't be joking, right?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to have that kind of close relationship with you so that when you want to give us warning, we won't think that you are joking. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
