OT DAY 71 - After Rehearsal, Now Is for Real (請按此處收聼廣東話Cantonese podcast click here)

Starting from yesterday we add one important thing to our daily devotion. We start our devotion with one to two verses from the Psalms to praise God. We always have so limited vocabulary when we want to praise God. Let's learn from the Psalms so that we can be able to praise God in a better way:

You have put more joy in my heart    than they have when their grain and wine abound.     Psalm 4:7

Today's Reading: Genesis 22:20-23:20

Bible Study

Today's passage focus on the death and burial of Sarah. With the theme we had yesterday of not withholding anyone or anything in Abraham's life, he is prepared to have his wife finishing well and die.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

It is more traditional to want to have an actual burial place with a tombstone, and it is something like this that Abraham wants for Sarah.  He needs to have a place that is "away from his dwelling"; he does not expect to bury Sarah in his backyard.  But he wants the place to be not too far away.  By implication, I presume, he wants to be buried there with her, and this is what his sons do for him in due course.

Are you prepared if God takes away your loved one and you can be at peace, not withholding that person, your anger or anything hindering Jesus cannot be your Lord?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: After rehearsal, now is for real

What Jesus tells me today is to prepare for the losing of anyone or anything. I sense a kind of rehearsal for Abraham with his willingness to give his own son. A similar feeling and action our Heavenly Father had when He allowed same thing to happen to Jesus, His only Son.

With Abraham's experience of the severe test he is prepared. But, are you prepared when similar crisis happen? Would you still have that kind of peace that is beyond anyone can understand because you have Jesus as your Lord and King?

All those tests in your life might just be rehearsals, and sooner or later, it will be for real. Are you prepared?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to take all those tests as rehearsals knowing that you are preparing us when it is for real. When that time comes, be with us so that we can have the peace because of your presence.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
