OT DAY 76 - I Will Be with You (請按此處收聼廣東話Cantonese podcast click here)

Starting from four days days ago we add one important thing to our daily devotion. We start our devotion with one to two verses from the Psalms to praise God. We always have so limited vocabulary when we want to praise God. Let's learn from the Psalms so that we can be able to praise God in a better way:

I will sing to the Lord,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.                     Psalm 13:6

Today's Reading: Genesis 25:23-26:5

Bible Study

When reading today's passage consists of two parts, most of us would focus on the first part concerning with the selling of the birth right of Esau to Jacob. But, it seems that the second part is more important.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says ( :
"I will be with you." God was certainly with Abraham, as Abimelech could see (Genesis 21:22), but God did not express an actual commitment to Abraham in these terms.  So one could call this the Isaac promise (it will be repeated for other people, and for Israel itself, but it starts off as the Isaac promise).  God's being with Isaac does not merely mean that Isaac has a sense of God's being there though times, or even that God actually is with Isaac through tough times, or even that God actually is with Isaac through tough times whether or not Isaac has a sense of it.  In the Bible, God's being with you is something that makes a practical difference to how things work out.  So the external circumstance seem to be working against you, God's being with you will isse in blessing(fruitfulness and flourishing).

In the midst of all kinds of unexpected struggles, stealing and fighting, what do you think is the most important for us to get through all those dark moment according to this passage?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":

The title I heard from Jesus today is: I will be with you

What Jesus tells me today is the importance of hearing God saying to us, "I will be with you." And, when God says that, it usually comes with a big challenge. We can see in tomorrow's passage about Jacob's challenge which made him almost lost Rebecca, his wife.

Have you heard God telling you, "I will be with you." What was your response? Did His word give you courage and peace to go through your crisis?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to know that the most important thing is that we need you to be with us everyday. Come Lord Jesus, come. Be with us now.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
