Bible Study

      Yesterday we talked about how God came down on earth to visit Abraham. Today we find out the reason for God to come down is because He wanted to guard Abraham and his family before everything became too late. We need to know that Abraham's nephew Lot is one of his closest family member. God came down to protect Abraham's family from being slaughtered by those evil people in Sodom and Gomorrah.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

     In Genesis 15:6, when Abraham made his act of trust in God "and he counted it for him as faithfulness."  It counted as doing the right thing by the other person in the context of a mutual relationship.

John Goldingay. Genesis for Everyone - Part Two. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.22.

      The covenant God made with Abraham signifies a close and mutual relationship. It's because of that mutual relationship God came down to guard Abraham and his family and to take them out of danger.

      Do you think God guards you like that? How secure you can be if you have that kind of mutual relationship with God?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

    The title I heard from Jesus today is: You guard God's path, God guards your path

    What I got from Jesus today is an assurance that God surely guards our path that we won't face with any danger beyond what we can handle. Why? Because of the message and assurance of this passage.

    But, there is one condition. You need to trust God and be faithful to Him like what Abraham did.

    Why does God need you to guard His path? That's God's Will since His creation early in the beginning! It is Adam and Eve made a mess of guarding God's path, then Noah and Abraham came in to take that original role as a human being to guard God's path. See how they are being guarded!

     Jesus reminds me just now that He is going to guard you and me so that we can experience Psalm 121 if we are willing to guard God's path. Listen to His Word from Psalm 121:

 lift up my eyes to the hills.
    From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved;
    he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper;
    the Lord is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all evil;
    he will keep your life.
The Lord will keep
    your going out and your coming in
    from this time forth and forevermore.
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be willing to guard your path so that we can experience your guarding our path.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
