Let us praise the Lord:

Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints,
for those who fear him have no lack!
10 The young lions suffer want and hunger;
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
                                                            Psalm 34:9-10
Today's Reading: Exodus 4:18-23

Bible Study

Today is the last day of year 2014. At the end of this year, God gives us a very strong message that only He is God.

Only He can close a page in the history of mankind!

Only He can open a new page in the history of mankind!

Today's passage leads us to see Pharaoh is nothing, Caesar is nothing, Hitler is nothing, all the kings, queens, tyrants, rulers and all those who want to be "god" are nothing. Because when God acts, no one can stand in the history of mankind.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

The empire sees itself as god.  It can benefit from the support of whatever people call god.
God can return the compliment.  God will harness Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece to the divine purpose.  God does this with Egypt in a more paradoxical way.  Egypt does its best to hold onto the Israelites rather than letting them go, but as a result ends up giving unwilling testimony to the power of God and plays an unwitting and accidental part in the process whereby God's purpose to bless the nations is achieved
The exodus story is the first great conflict in Scripture between God and an imperial power, a superpower.  You could say that within the Old Testament it is the only such conflict; God never has much trouble with those subsequent superpowers.  Pharaoh thinks he is king, thinks he is top dog, virtually thinks he is god.  Superpowers regularly do that, and God lets them get away with their delusion for a while as long as it suits God's purpose, but for one reason or another there comes a moment when God deems it necessary to take on the superpower and show who is really King. Such is Pharaoh's moment.

On the last day of 2014, how could today's message give you an assurance of your new year's plan?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: God is God! God is the real King!

What I receive from Jesus today is a personal assurance that God will be with me in the year 2015, and beyond. There is one condition, only if I am willing to be with Him daily. Whenever I choose to leave Him, may be just for one day, then it could be another story.

I had quite some precious moments that God used me in 2014 to lead some people back to Him. Most of them told me they do not understand why they have left God for such a long time, the consequence is that they also left the love of their family and other people. Cutting off relationships is the consequence of leaving God because whenever we leave God, then Satan can put his hand on us! And we are finished!

The difference between "finishing well" and "finished" is whether you can have Jesus as your Lord. Jesus is Lord is the only answer that we can finish well and not finished!

May you be willing to have Jesus as your Lord leading you to a new page in 2015!

      Happy New Year!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Open our eyes to see that only you can close a page and to open a new page in the history of mankind and also in us. Lead us Lord Jesus as our Lord and King.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

OT DAY 114 - I Will Be with You (請按此處收聼廣東話Cantonese podcast click here)

Let us praise the Lord:

This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him
and saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them.
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
                                                            Psalm 34:6-8
Today's Reading: Exodus 3:11-4:17

Bible Study

Today's passage shows how many excuses one can make to God's calling. Moses used every kind of excuses he could think of to get away from God's calling. So, what the key message in this passage is full of Moses lack of faith and fear of the unknown.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

"What, me?" Moses first asks.  We might have thought that Moses had some useful qualifications… Moses is not being commissioned on the basis of his experience in the palace, his initiative, or his leadership potential.  He will not need any of these to fulfill the strictly subordinate role God has in mind.  All he will have to do is relay messages to Pharaoh and perform tricks.  What counts is God's "I will be with you."  This is not merely a promise that he will feel God is with him but a promise that God will be with him actively whether he feels it or not.

John Goldingay. Exodus & Leviticus for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.19.

Do you know God is calling you just like He called Moses 3,300 years ago? How do you feel? Encouraged? Frightened?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: I will be with you

What I receive from Jesus today is that He is really calling you. I do not know what He wants you to do. That is between Jesus and you and you need to figure it out. The key message is that He is calling you to do something for Him and that must be a kind of work concerning with His Kingdom.

Just like Moses, most people react and want to run away. Those who are willing to receive the call and do exactly what the Lord calls will surely experience the promise binding with His call: I will be with you.

Jesus reminds me of the first time He called me to go to seminary in  February 1982 and my first excuse was just like one of Moses excuses "I am slow of speech and of tongue." Painfully I went through a process for a few months and I responded to His call in May 1982. Since then, I have experienced numerous time of God's promise "I will be with you!" I think more than a thousand times!

God is calling you today! Don't "chicken out"! Do not be afraid!
He will surely be with you!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to courageously say YES to your call so that we will start to experience your promise that you will be with us.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
