OT DAY 114 - I Will Be with You (請按此處收聼廣東話Cantonese podcast click here)

Let us praise the Lord:

This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him
and saved him out of all his troubles.
The angel of the Lord encamps
around those who fear him, and delivers them.
Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
                                                            Psalm 34:6-8
Today's Reading: Exodus 3:11-4:17

Today's passage shows how many excuses one can make to God's calling. Moses used every kind of excuses he could think of to get away from God's calling. So, what the key message in this passage is full of Moses lack of faith and fear of the unknown.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

"What, me?" Moses first asks.  We might have thought that Moses had some useful qualifications… Moses is not being commissioned on the basis of his experience in the palace, his initiative, or his leadership potential.  He will not need any of these to fulfill the strictly subordinate role God has in mind.  All he will have to do is relay messages to Pharaoh and perform tricks.  What counts is God's "I will be with you."  This is not merely a promise that he will feel God is with him but a promise that God will be with him actively whether he feels it or not.

John Goldingay. Exodus & Leviticus for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.19.

Do you know God is calling you just like He called Moses 3,300 years ago? How do you feel? Encouraged? Frightened?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: I will be with you

What I receive from Jesus today is that He is really calling you. I do not know what He wants you to do. That is between Jesus and you and you need to figure it out. The key message is that He is calling you to do something for Him and that must be a kind of work concerning with His Kingdom.

Just like Moses, most people react and want to run away. Those who are willing to receive the call and do exactly what the Lord calls will surely experience the promise binding with His call: I will be with you.

Jesus reminds me of the first time He called me to go to seminary in  February 1982 and my first excuse was just like one of Moses excuses "I am slow of speech and of tongue." Painfully I went through a process for a few months and I responded to His call in May 1982. Since then, I have experienced numerous time of God's promise "I will be with you!" I think more than a thousand times!

God is calling you today! Don't "chicken out"! Do not be afraid!
He will surely be with you!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to courageously say YES to your call so that we will start to experience your promise that you will be with us.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
