OT DAY 91 - We Are A Means Bringing Blessing (請按此處收聼廣東話Cantonese podcast click here)

Starting last week we add one important thing to our daily devotion. We start our devotion with one to two verses from the Psalms to praise God. We always have so limited vocabulary when we want to praise God. Let's learn from the Psalms so that we can be able to praise God in a better way:

Lift up your heads, O gates!
And be lifted up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord, strong and mighty,
    the Lordmighty in battle!
Lift up your heads, O gates!
And lift them up, O ancient doors,
that the King of glory may come in.
10 Who is this King of glory?
    The Lord of hosts,
he is the King of glory!
                                Psalm 24: 7-10
Today's Reading: Genesis 33:18- 34:31

Today's passage is a terrible one to read. How can a rape turning out to be a mass killing. And, they are Jacob's sons! The story reminds us how horrible our dark side is and how dirty and evil we could be.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

The descendants of Jacob-Israel are supposed to be a means of bringing blessing to the nations.  They are to be an open community; anyone who wished to join them can do so.  Jacob's sons talk about their group and the Hivites becoming one people.  It is a lovely vision.  The Hivites just have to be circumcised. This is the sign of the convenient. But Jacob's sons turn the sign of life into a sign of death.

John Goldingay. Genesis for Everyone - Part Two. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.122.

Do you know your dark side? Do you think your dark side could turn you to be a destroyer destroying every possible relationships connected to you because something bad happened to you?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: We are a means bringing blessing

What Jesus tells me today is a calling for us to stay in His Kingdom following Him as Lord and King. There are times when we are being controlled by our anger, insecurity and hate we might be turned into just like an animal doing things only animals do.

You must be thinking that I am too exaggerating. Not at all! Try to look at a mirror when someone triggers your anger. Do you know what you would look like? I have seen too many of those faces and they are terrible!

Yes, someone hurt you and that might be a fact. But, could you calm yourself down not doing the same thing to them, or even doing worse things to them. You are a human being. You are in the image of God. Don't let the Deceiver to deceive you to turn you into a "destroyer". Destroyer and Deceiver are Satan's other names. Don't let the devil to win you over. Let God to win you over!

We are a means bringing blessing!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be with you each day so that we are abel to be a means bringing blessing. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
