OT DAY 110 - Fruitful and Powerful (請按此處收聼廣東話Cantonese podcast click here)

Let us praise the Lord:

Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
    Praise befits the upright.
Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
    make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
Sing to him a new song;
    play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.
                                                            Psalm 33:1-3
Today's Reading: Exodus 1: 1-14

      Today we start Exodus. While the movie Exodus is on all theatres all over the world recently, we are reading this book in a way hoping that God will open our eyes to see what He wants us to see through this most powerful and historical event.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

     In describing the Israelites as fruitful, teeming, and numbers.  Exodus also reminds the audience of the beginning of the entire series, Genesis 1.  There, God commissioned the creation to do that.  Israel has done it; it has experienced the creation blessing on a stupendous scale…Exodus adds a verb that did not come in Genesis.  The Israelites became very, very strong.  That worries the Egyptians, but the Israelites have become an important part of their work force and economy; they want to hold onto them.

John Goldingay. Exodus & Leviticus for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2010, p.7.

      Do you believe that if you follow Jesus to be your Lord reclaiming the true image of God to be more and more Christlike you will be more and more fruitful and powerful? But, you might have to go through the same Exodus journey as what the Israelites went through.  Are you prepared?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

    The title I heard from Jesus today is: Fruitful and powerful

    What Jesus tells me today is the result of our following Him as Lord and King: fruitful and powerful. Ah, you may be thinking that you would be top of the world being able to control everybody and everything. Not at all! It might means that you are going to be envy, hate and suppressed just like the Israelites by the Egyptians or by Hitler many thousand years later. A genocide!

    But, you need to know that the real person to be in charge of all those kinds of genocides in the history of mankind is Satan, he is the Destroyer. He is the one to put you in a worldly system that sooner or later you have to experience your Exodus journey if you want to follow Jesus. And, believe it or not, Jesus is going to take you through and be able to lead you into his Kingdom authority and become more and more fruitful.

    Today is Boxing Day, I do hope and pray that when you unwrap all those wonderful gifts from God as a result of following Him, you will remember that is not from your ability or power and that you are willing to use all those resources for His Kingdom's sake and not your own kingdom's sake.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to follow you so that we can experience the fruit and power of your mighty Kingdom. Help us to use all those extra resources for your Kingdom's sake. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
