OT DAY 79 - Words That Can't Be Undone (請按此處收聼廣東話Cantonese podcast click here)

Starting last week we add one important thing to our daily devotion. We start our devotion with one to two verses from the Psalms to praise God. We always have so limited vocabulary when we want to praise God. Let's learn from the Psalms so that we can be able to praise God in a better way:

I bless the Lord who gives me counsel;
    in the night also my heart instructs me.
I have set the Lord always before me;
    because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken.
Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices;
    my flesh also dwells secure.       Psalm 16: 7-9

Today's Reading: Genesis 27:34- 28:5

      Today's passage tells us the power of our words. Can you imagine how critical it is that Isaac's words can't be undone.

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

     In lots of ways, words are powerful things.  We can say things and wish we had not said them yet be unable to get out of their implications
     As the head of the family, Isaac has the responsibility to see things go well after his death and to see his eldest son get the resources he needs to become the new head of the family.  Blessing his eldest son is the way he goes about that.  His word, solemnly uttered in the context of a meal that makes it rather like a covenant, has that effect.  So for Esau and Jacob, the implications of what happens here are critical and decisive.  Esau loses his position, his responsibility, and his security.  Jacob gains all those . He gains the blessing.

      Have you ever thought about the weigh and consequence of your words? What have you learned from today's message?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

    The title I heard from Jesus today is: Words that can't be undone

    What Jesus tells me today is a warning of how we use our words. How can you imagine Isaac's blessing can bring out such destruction causing the hate of Esau to Jacob to the point of killing him?

    I have been praying for someone the last few days because his words cause serious damage to his marriage and his family. I just don't understand why we as human beings can do that to our spouse and family using crazy and hurtful words destroying the whole family. Please pray for this brother and that reconciliation and restoration will happen!

    Watch out your words! Remember that your words can't be undone!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be careful when we use our words. Lead us in your way that we use words only to build and not destroy, to encourage and not to discourage, to bring people to you and not to be away from you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
