OT DAY 80 - I Am with You (請按此處收聼廣東話Cantonese podcast click here)

Starting last week we add one important thing to our daily devotion. We start our devotion with one to two verses from the Psalms to praise God. We always have so limited vocabulary when we want to praise God. Let's learn from the Psalms so that we can be able to praise God in a better way:

I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.     Psalm 18: 1-2
Today's Reading: Genesis 28:6-15

Bible Study

Have you experienced like what Jacob experienced in today's passage? Discouraged, frightened and do not know what would happen. If you have, do you remember how God showed up and gave you encouragement?

Let's take a look at what Professor John Goldingay says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :

What God does in Jacob's dream is open his eyes to something that is happening all the time; the scene parallels one where Elisha prays for his servant to be able to see the supernatural forces that protect them when they are in danger (2 Kings 6)
God begins with another phrase that comes here for the first time but will often recur in the Old Testament: "I am the Lord." It is a kind of self-announcement…It means "I remind you who I am, because it is the basis for what I am about to say when I declare my intentions or make promises." So it is when God speaks to Jacob.  All the power and authority of the Lord lie behind the promises that will follow..
That leads directly into the commitments God goes on toe make to Jacob…They mean I will be with you on this journey that is both shameful(because you are on the run) and auspicious (because you are going to find a wife from your own people)." The promise to be with Jacob takes up the promise to Isaac when he was under pressure (Genesis 26:1-5).

When you are under pressure, have you experienced God's personal assurance like that before? How are you going to count His blessings now?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

The title I heard from Jesus today is: I am with you

What Jesus tells me today is such an assurance that is beyond words can express. I started to count His blessings a few minutes ago and God opens my eyes to remember so many incidents in my life that He led me in a very special way just as He led Jacob.

It is so easy for us not feeling that God is with us. It is so difficult for our eyes to be opened to see God's works through the angels have never stopped. But, once our eyes and ears are being opened and we will have no fear.

So, pray now to our Lord Jesus Christ to open your eyes to see His mighty power and for your ears to be opened to hear Him saying to you:
     I am with you!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Open our eyes to see those things you want us to see and to open our ears to hear to saying to us, "I am with you." In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
