Bible Study

Paul continues to teach the Corinthians how to use the gift of speaking in tongues in a right way. Let me conclude with the following points:
1. Speaking in tongues is one of the spiritual gifts and it is good. Paul had that gift and he spoke in tongues more than anyone.

2. If we want to use the gift in public worship then we need someone to translate.

3. Do not use this gift to boast thinking that you are superior than other people.

4. Don't use this gift if it does not build up other people.

Have you received the gift of speaking in tongues? If you have, congratulations! But, be careful of how you exercise this gift. Use this gift to build up and never boasting this gift.

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

What I heard from Jesus today is: Speaking in tongues, good? Bad?

What I got from Jesus today is a question Christians always ask. There are quite a number of point of view in the issue of speaking in tongues:
1. Some do not believe that the gift of speaking in tongues is still woking today. They think that it is only talking about the Early Church.

2. Some have received this gift but are afraid to exercise this gift.

3. Some like to exercise this gift but always boasting how powerful and different he or she is.

Which group do you belong? Remember, Paul spoke in tongues, Nicky Gumbel speaks in tongues and I think the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby speaks in tongues because he is from Holy Trinity Brompton and many Christians speak in tongues. There is no fear to receive this gift and to exercise this gift. But, be very careful of your pride to boast this gift!

Dear Holy Spirit,
Pour down your fresh anointing that we are willing and ready to receive those gifts you prepare to give us. Help us to have no fear but have the courage to exercise our gifts joyfully. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
