Bible Study

Paul starts to solve another problem for the Corinthians. It is about whether they should or should not eat the food sacrificed to idols. Paul wants the Corinthians to know eating or not eating is not the big deal because they have only one God and one Lord Jesus Christ. The Corinthians argue about the knowing but Paul stresses on the loving. The Corinthians argue about the doing but Paul stresses on the being. If you have the being then you should know the doing.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Knowledge, indeed (verses 1-3) that just puffs you up (his regular charge against the Corinthian teachers); what you need is not knowledge but love- the point he will eventually spell out in detail in chapter 13.  And in any case what matters is not your knowledge about this or that, or even about God and the gods; what matters is God's knowledge of you, and the way you will be aware of that is by the love you find for this true God deep in your own heart and mind.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:1 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.100.

So, do you stress knowledge more than love? How can you show forth love before you insist on your knowing something causing argument or even division? Is your doing Jesus's work more important than being with Jesus?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

What I heard from Jesus today is: Don't make the not big deal the big deal

What I got from Jesus today is a warning to all of us not to make things complicated. It is so often people would stress of what they know, insist on the things they know and to make a big mess, causing anger, bitterness and division.

The real big deal is our loving relationship with Jesus each day. Without that daily intimate personal relationship with Jesus, no matter we know a lot, it's useless. If we have that urge being with Jesus each day allowing Him to love us and we loving Him. Then, we should be able to love others more, forgive more, accept more and co-operate more.

Don't make the not big deal the big deal!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be able to be with you each day that we won't make the not big deal the big deal. Help us to know the real big deal is to be with you each day so that we can love.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
