Bible Study

Paul continued the theme of his not getting any money to preach the Gospel. He had the rights to receive support from other people but he did not want to.

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
Paul was announcing the gospel 'for free'.  He cherished and guarded this privilege, as he says in verse 15, as though his life depended on it.  He would rather die than accept payment.

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:1 Corinthians. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.108-109.

Does that mean that you don't have to pay reasonable salary to your pastors and other staff? No, on contrary, it is to remind us how much we need to lay down everything so that we can preach the Gospel. Do you think so?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

What I heard from Jesus today is: Announcing the Gospel for free

What I got from Jesus today is a call for us to lay down our lives just like Paul to preach the Gospel so that more people can have a chance to hear the Gospel and to receive Jesus as their Lord for free.

I have experienced quite a number of times that people ask, "How much do I have to pay when I become a Christian." And some even said, "If I need to pay a lot, I don't think I like to be a Christian." So, how do you answer those questions?

How can we explain to them that Gospel is for free. How can we explain to them when they are in baptism class that they need to tithe and more than tithing? For free, and then 10% and then more than 10%! What? Can they understand?

Yes, they can if they really receive Jesus as their Lord and experience Jesus as their Lord and the church as their home. It's not a big deal that you love to bring home your everything. It would be a big, big deal if anyone ask you for money other than your closest family members.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to know the difference of Gospel for free and how to give our everything to your Kingdom ministry.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
