OT DAY 494 - God's Last Warning to Solomon (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

       The afflicted shall eat and be satisfied;
those who seek him shall praise the Lord!
           May your hearts live forever!
                                     Psalm 22:26

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (1 Kings 11:7-13)

Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Molech the abomination of the Ammonites, on the mountain east of Jerusalem. And so he did for all his foreign wives, who made offerings and sacrificed to their gods.
And the Lord was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned away from the Lord, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice 10 and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods. But he did not keep what the Lord commanded. 11 Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, “Since this has been your practice and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes that I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you and will give it to your servant. 12 Yet for the sake of David your father I will not do it in your days, but I will tear it out of the hand of your son. 13 However, I will not tear away all the kingdom, but I will give one tribe to your son, for the sake of David my servant and for the sake of Jerusalem that I have chosen.”
                                         1 Kings 11:7-13

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

Lots of people think that God won't set a bottom-line for us, or God does not have a bottom-line because He is always merciful. Wrong! Today and tomorrow's passages are one of the best example to show us that God has a bottom-line! The frightening fact is that we as human beings never know when would be His bottom-line.

Today's passage shows the consequence of how King Solomon did all those things things God says a king cannot do and Solomon did that. He worshipped other gods!

Today's passage also shows us the last time God spoke to Solomon. Did he has any chance to ask God for forgiveness so that those horrible things God said would not happen? Yes, he had, but he said nothing. No repentance, not a sentence. Why?

In our 6:30a.m. Copying the Bible to pray session we had just one verse from the Proverbs and this verse shows exactly what happened to Solomon:

         Pride goes before destruction,
and a haughty spirit before a fall.       Proverbs 16:18

Solomon thought he was top of the world and no one could touch him, even God. He did not listen, then God stopped to speak to him and let his enemies to speak to him, to attack him, to destroy him and his family, and then the end of today's chapter record the death of Solomon!

How do you feel? Is similar last warning happening to you recently and that you have a chance to repent and return back to God's Kingdom? Or, is there anyone God put into your life to help him or her to repent and return back to God's Kingdom?

Dear Lord Jesus,
Open our eyes to see our sins, open our ears to listen to your warning so that we won't step into Solomon's pride and haughty spirit.  In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. If you were Solomon, what would you do after God gives you that warning as in today's passage?

2. Do you have anything God wants you not to do or to do now? What is your action?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
