Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (1 Kings 11:14-43)

14 And the Lord raised up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite. He was of the royal house in Edom.

23 God also raised up as an adversary to him, Rezon the son of Eliada, who had fled from his master Hadadezer king of Zobah.

25 He was an adversary of Israel all the days of Solomon, doing harm as Hadad did. And he loathed Israel and reigned over Syria.
26 Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite of Zeredah, a servant of Solomon, whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow, also lifted up his hand against the king.

40 Solomon sought therefore to kill Jeroboam. But Jeroboam arose and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon.
41 Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the Book of the Acts of Solomon? 42 And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. 43 And Solomon slept with his fathers and was buried in the city of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.

                                         1 Kings 11:14, 23, 25-26, 40-43

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

When God gave his last warning to Solomon and he ignored and rejected, God raised up enemies to attack Solomon, not just one enemy, but many. God even used a prophet to tell a young leader of Solomon of what God warned Solomon. This young man, Jeroboam took Solomon's ten tribes out of twelve and became King of Israel in later time.

You think that God is always merciful who does not have a bottom-line. See how God raised up all those enemies to pull Solomon down. Why? Because of his leaving God worshipping other gods and his hugh pride. If you are in deep trouble, may be God is using similar way as he dealt with Solomon to deal with you.

Do you think Solomon had a chance to repent? Yes, of course. But, even though God raised up so many enemies hoping that Solomon would come back to Him, there is not a sign in today's passage of Solomon's repentance or return. And then, the Bible records Solomon's death!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be willing to listen and obey to you so that you won't raise up enemies to deal with us.   In Jesus Name I pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. Do you think God really will raise up enemies hoping that someone would repent?

2. If you are in deep trouble or depression, do you know why? Do you think God is using similar method to deal with you?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
