OT DAY 543 - Time for God's Punishment, Wicked People Vanished (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
           Praise befits the upright.
        Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
        Sing to him a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.

                                     Psalm 33:1-3

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 10:1-28)

Then he wrote to them a second letter, saying, “If you are on my side, and if you are ready to obey me, take the heads of your master's sons and come to me at Jezreel tomorrow at this time.” Now the king's sons, seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who were bringing them up. And as soon as the letter came to them, they took the king's sons and slaughtered them, seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel. When the messenger came and told him, “They have brought the heads of the king's sons,” he said, “Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning.” Then in the morning, when he went out, he stood and said to all the people, “You are innocent. It was I who conspired against my master and killed him, but who struck down all these? 10 Know then that there shall fall to the earth nothing of the word of the Lord, which the Lord nspoke concerning the house of Ahab, for the Lord has done what he said by his servant Elijah.”
                             2 Kings 10:6-10

23 Then Jehu went into the house of Baal with Jehonadab the son of Rechab, and he said to the worshipers of Baal, “Search, and see that there is no servant of the Lord here among you, but only the worshipers of Baal.” 24 Then they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings.
Now Jehu had stationed eighty men outside and said, “The man who allows any of those whom I give into your hands to escape shall forfeit his life.” 25 So as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, Jehu said to the guard and to the officers, “Go in and strike them down; let not a man escape.” So when they put them to the sword, the guard and the officers cast them out and went into the inner room of the house of Baal, 26 and they brought out the pillar that was in the house of Baal and burned it. 27 And they demolished the pillar of Baal, and demolished the house of Baal, and made it a latrine to this day. 28 Thus Jehu wiped out Baal from Israel.
                                                 2 Kings 10:23-28

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

Ahab was such an evil king that even in the time of powerful prophets such as Elijah and Elisha, Ahab was still in power. What would you think if you were Elijah and Elisha? Do you think Elijah and Elisha prayed for Ahab to confess his sins and change? I think so. That may be the reasons that Ahab got several chances to change but in the end, his sins and stubbornness cause the lives of his whole family.
You never know how many chances God gives to someone until you see how God's punishment comes!

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
     (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :
God becomes deeply involved in events that encourage people to do things to realize their own ambitions and bring death and destruction to other people when God knows that death and destruction are indeed the appropriate punishment for these people…

John Goldingay. 1 and 2 Kings for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.144.

Lots of time, we are sad and in bitterness because we think that God does nothing to punish those bad guys. What we do not know is that God will give as much time He will give to you, to me and to those bad guys until God decides that is it. When God acts, no one can reverse His action!

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to live in your own standard and be willing to serve you and your people so that we won't be under your final punishment.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
   1. Do you think that God is unfair sometimes because it seems that He never act to punish the bad guys?

2. Have you got some kind of assurance today that God will surely act to punish and take away wicked people in the most severe way?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
