Bible Study

Paul challenges the Philippians and us about why we want to follow Jesus. Do we follow Christ like following an earthly king that we want power, authority and everything. Here in this passage, Jesus gives us the true picture of God and it is not like what most people can think of. It is just the reverse! How can a king humble himself to be a servant and die for us. Impossible!

Bishop N.T. Wright says ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N._T._Wright ) :
This is a God who is known most clearly when he abandons his rights for the sake of the world.  Yes, says Paul; and that's 'the mind of Christ', the pattern of thinking that belongs to you because you belong to the Messiah(verse 5).

N.T. Wright. Paul for Everyone:Te Prison Letters. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2004, p.104.

What do you want from Jesus as the true King and Lord? What do you want from Him? What do you think He wants from you?

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe":  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmax47l2hLU

Spiritual Journal

The title I heard from Jesus today is: Follow Jesus to serve and die for many

The message I got from Jesus today is a call to follow Jesus' way as Paul shows in today's passage:
1. To humble yourself and become a true servant of Jesus, He is your Lord.
2. Be obedient to Jesus' command to do whatever Jesus wants you to do as a servant.
3. Be ready to sacrifice what you have got, let go of those things Jesus wants you to let go.
4. Be obedient like Jesus to die on the Cross: self-centredness, pride, money, power, desire and more…

Saying Jesus is Lord is quite easy, but to really follow Jesus as your Lord is not easy.

Jesus asks you now, "Are you willing?"

Dear Lord Jesus,
Lead us to be willing to follow you to humble ourselves to be servants of you and be willing to die for many, just like you. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
