"Take a census of the whole Israelite community by their clans and families, listing every man by name, one by one. You and Aaron are to number by their divisions all the men in Israel twenty years old or more who are able to serve in the army. One man from each tribe each the head of his family, is to help you."

Numbers 1: 2-4

What I got from Jesus today is: Are you ready to be numbered?

What I heard from Jesus today is whether you are ready to be numbered for war? What kind of war? Wars that we have to fight in order to enter the Promised Land!

That's why we need to be in a good church. That's why we need to be under good leaders. That's why we need to know we cannot fight this spiritual warfare alone because Satan has his way to forbid us to go into the Promised Land. That's why so many Christians are still wandering in the "desert" not knowing God has prepared a Promised Land. That's why there are quite a number of Christians living in a lifestyle not eligible to enter into the Promised Land that they live in a worldly culture rather than a Godly culture! I do hope the "we" is not "us" or "you"!

The book of Numbers refer to the two censuses or "numberings" of Israelite men in chapter 1 and 26. Appropriately, this book is known in the Hebrew Old Testament as "In the Desert" (bemidbar).

Chronologically, Numbers is a follow-up to the history recorded in the book of Exodus. By this point in their journey, the people had spent about a year at Mount Sinai. During this time God established his covenant with Israel. He also gave Moses the law and the instructions for the tabernacle and communicated to him the contents of Leviticus. Now the Israelites prepared to continue their journey to the land God had promised them as the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Shortly before leaving Mount Sinai, God directed Moses to take a census of all the Israelite men who were eligible to go to war(1: 2-3). Nineteen days later, the nation departed for a brief journey to Kadesh(10:11). While at Kadesh, Israel rebelled against God and his plan for them to take possession of the land. As a result, God judged the people of that generation by allowing them to wander in the desert for 39 years. At the end of that time, God brought an entirely new generation of Israelites to the plains of Moab, which was across the Jordan River from Jericho and the promised land. And they had to go through the same test of "trust" again. This time they obeyed God's direction and they entered into the Promised Land.

So, are you ready to be numbered? Which "division" do you belong? Whose your head of your tribe? Who are your leaders? Are you willing to follow your tribal head and the leaders?

In this year's AMiA's Winter Conference, I heard a very powerful witness of a priest stood up in the clergy convocation of how much he cherished being an AMiA priest. And, the last sentence he said was, "I have found my tribe!" I saw the joy in his face and the honor of being an AMiA priest!

Have you found your tribe? Are you ready to be numbered?

Soldiers, wake up, rise up and march!
Left, right, left, right, left, forward march!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to know whether we have found our tribe and ready to be numbered. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
