Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

         Praise him with tambourine and dance;
praise him with strings and pipe!

                    Psalm 150:4

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (1 Samuel 17:1-54)

45 David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. 46 This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. 47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is theLord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward the battle line to meet him. 49 Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and he fell facedown on the ground.                                         1   Samuel 17: 45-49

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening

The story of David the boy won and killed Goliath the giant is so well known that almost everybody knows. If you were in similar situation, facing with the toughest enemy, a challenge that you would not be able to win, how would today's passage help you to have the secret of victory?

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:

The basis for David's conviction is that God is Yahweh Armies. David knows that God really does have all power in the heavens and on the earth, and he knows that God is prepared to use it. God is not merely sovereign in people's religious and personal lives but in the world's political and military life. God has the power and is prepared to use it, but God characteristically uses it on behalf of someone like David, not on behalf of someone like Goliath, who hardly needs it. What God delights to do is turn odds upside down. When God acts, the bows of warriors are broken and people who were falling gain strength, because it is not by might that a person prevails. David's story is good news for little people.

The passage we read yesterday told us that when the Holy Spirit left Saul and he was done. The Holy Spirit rushed upon David and he was full of victory and became king later. Jesus reminds me of two passages as the secret of victory for David and us:
    1. Rushed upon by the Holy Spirit
So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the Lord came powerfully upon David.
                                                         1 Samuel 16:13

      2. Not by might, not by power, but by the Holy Spirit
Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit.         Zechariah 4:6

Are you willing to let Jesus to be your Lord and King each day and that you are filled with the Holy Spirit decide your whole life of winning and losing.

    Dear Holy Spirit,
Come and fill me that I won't fear might and power and that I am being filled with the Holy Spirit each day and rely on you each day.  In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. What kind of new awareness have you received today?

2. Do you know the best way to have victory in all things?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?

 Praise and Thanksgiving
