OT DAY 533 - Only Men of God Can Do Things God Can Do (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

Oh, how abundant is your goodness,
which you have stored up for those who fear you
and worked for those who take refuge in you,
in the sight of the children of mankind!

                                     Psalm 31:19

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 4:38-44)

38 And Elisha came again to Gilgal when there was a famine in the land. And as the sons of the prophets were sitting before him, he said to his servant, “Set on the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets.” 39 One of them went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine and gathered from it his lap full of wild gourds, and came and cut them up into the pot of stew, not knowing what they were. 40 And they poured out some for the men to eat. But while they were eating of the stew, they cried out, “O man of God, there is death in the pot!” And they could not eat it. 41 He said, “Then bring flour.” And he threw it into the pot and said, “Pour some out for the men, that they may eat.” And there was no harm in the pot.
42 A man came from Baal-shalishah, bringing the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley and fresh ears of grain in his sack. And Elisha said, “Give to the men, that they may eat.” 43 But his servant said, “How can I set this before a hundred men?” So he repeated, “Give them to the men, that they may eat, for thus says the Lord, ‘They shall eat and have some left.’” 44 So he set it before them. And they ate and had some left, according to the word of the Lord.
                                                 2 Kings 4:38-44

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

What Elisha demonstrated here in today's passage of his spiritual authority and power is what the whole Bible wants to show and tell us. Yes, "Show and Tell", just like those young kids in school doing everyday for their teachers and classmates. To show and tell some good things so that all can learn something good and real.
God is good and He is so real. Servants of God can do anything you can imagine or never can imagine according to the Bible and in the history of Christianity.

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:
     (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Goldingay) :
The last story in the chapter concerns Elisha's miraculously feeding a hundred people with a relatively small number of loaves; it, too, will thereby eventually show how Jesus exercises a ministry like Elisha's. One can't produce generalizations from the stories about the way healing works; one simply stands astonished and hopeful before what God sometimes does.

John Goldingay. 1 and 2 Kings for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.121.

That's how Jesus did everything prophets did trying to tell people He is being sent from God to save and heal just as all the other prophets. But, Jesus did one thing no one can do, not even Moses, Joshua, Elijah, Elishs or anyone on earth. He died, resurrected and lived in front of the eyes of all His disciples!
He wants to tell us if we want to do something we can not do we have to die and rise with Him so that we can have a total trust and obedience to Him letting Him to use us to do things beyond our imagination.
Without that dying each day to let Jesus to be our Lord and King, we have no hope to do anything God size!

    Dear Holy Spirit,
Help us to know our sins so that we know what we need to die so that you can be our Lord and King using us to do things we can not imagine.  In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. Do you think you really can do something beyond your own capacity?

2. Have you done anything beyond your own capacity before? Why could you do that? What happen?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
