OT DAY 521 - The Only Way Not to Be Burnt to Death(Eliminated): Kneel Down, Humble Yourself (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

Sing praises to the Lord, O you his saints,
and give thanks to his holy name.
For his anger is but for a moment,
and his favor is for a lifetime.
Weeping may tarry for the night,
but joy comes with the morning.

                                     Psalm 30:4-5

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 1:9-18)

Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty men with his fifty. He went up to Elijah, who was sitting on the top of a hill, and said to him, “O man of God, the king says, ‘Come down.’” 10 But Elijah answered the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.
11 Again the king sent to him another captain of fifty men with his fifty. And he answered and said to him, “O man of God, this is the king's order, ‘Come down quickly!’” 12 But Elijah answered them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty.” Then the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.
13 Again the king sent the captain of a third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up and came and fell on his knees before Elijah and entreated him, “O man of God, please let my life, and the life of these fifty servants of yours, be precious in your sight. 14 Behold, fire came down from heaven and consumed the two former captains of fifty men with their fifties, but now let my life be precious in your sight.” 15 Then the angel of the Lord said to Elijah, “Go down with him; do not be afraid of him.” So he arose and went down with him to the king 16 and said to him, “Thus says the Lord, ‘Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron—is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of his word?—therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’”
17 So he died according to the word of the Lord that Elijah had spoken.
                                      2 Kings 1:9-17a

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

Yesterday I asked this question: Would God give Ahaziah a second chance? My answer is YES,  but it depends on how Ahaziah responded to God's judgment and warning.
Ahaziah did not get God's warning. May be that is his pride, may be he is foolish! He chose an authoritative way to deal with Elijah. Then, God used Elijah to have His authoritative way to deal with Ahaziah's two groups of 51 soldiers. They were all burnt to death.
The captain of the third group knelt down and asked for Elijah to have mercy, then mercy came and the captain and his 50 soldiers were not burnt to death.
But, King Ahaziah did not get this last warning and the only way not to be killed by God and that is knelt down and humbled himself. He did nothing, and he died!
I suggest you kneel down to pray to God at least one time a day. I have been kneeling down to pray several times a day since many years ago. When we humble ourselves daily, our Lord and King can be truly our Lord and King leading us to life and victory!

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Open our eyes to see the only way to escape your judgment is to kneel down and humble ourselves so that you can be our Lord and King. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
     1. Why King Ahaziah could not get the only way to escape his death and doing nothing?

2. Are you willing to kneel down to pray more starting today? Do you know the difference when you are willing to humble yourself each day or not?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
