OT DAY 526 - Never Bully God's Servant (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

       In you, O Lord, do I take refuge;
         let me never be put to shame;
         in your righteousness deliver me!
                                     Psalm 31:1

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

     “Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

     "Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 2:23-25)

23 He went up from there to Bethel, and while he was going up on the way, some small boys came out of the city and jeered at him, saying, “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!”24 And he turned around, and when he saw them, he cursed them in the name of the Lord. And two she-bears came out of the woods and tore forty-two of the boys. 25 From there he went on to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.                2 Kings 2:23-25

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

           After Elisha successfully gone through all four secret to receive his master, Elijah's baton, he was ready to do his prophetic ministry. Then, at this time, he was being bullied by 42 youths. Something terrible happened! Elisha cursed those 42 youths and then all 42 youths were being torn to pieces by two bears. Did God do that?

     讓我們聽聽 John Goldingay 教授的教導:
         The story of the boys and the bears further underscores Elisha's importance as God's servant…the boys are jeering at someone whom anyone could recognize as a servant of God, and in bidding him to "go up" they are telling him to carry on past their city, to go away. Once again, while Jesus would no count forbid his disciples to act like Elisha as he forbade them to act like Elijah, his words show that it is only temporarily that people get away with belittling Jesus. In the end they will pay with their lives.

John Goldingay. 1 and 2 Kings for Everyone. Louisville,KY: Westminster John Knox Press, 2011, p.113.

            Belittling and bullying God's servant might cause someone life, can you imagine that? May be this is the time for all of us to try our best to honour God's servants and not to bully them!

    Dear Lord Jesus,
    Help us to be very careful not to say bad words against your servants, especially not bullying them so that we can live. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. Do you think bullying God's servants really might cause someone's life? Why?

2. How can you try your best to honour God's servants?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
