OT DAY 525 - Receive Your Discipler's Baton Secret 4: Have Courage to Exercise The Power You Received from Your Master (Please click here for English podcast)

Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

      You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
          you have loosed my sackcloth
          and clothed me with gladness,
that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever!
                                     Psalm 30:11-12

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (2 Kings 2:14-22)

14 Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the water, saying, “Where is theLord, the God of Elijah?” And when he had struck the water, the water was parted to the one side and to the other, and Elisha went over.
15 Now when the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho saw him opposite them, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they came to meet him and bowed to the ground before him. 16 And they said to him, “Behold now, there are with your servants fifty strong men. Please let them go and seek your master. It may be that the Spirit of the Lord has caught him up and cast him upon some mountain or into some valley.” And he said, “You shall not send.” 17 But when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, “Send.” They sent therefore fifty men. And for three days they sought him but did not find him. 18 And they came back to him while he was staying at Jericho, and he said to them, “Did I not say to you, ‘Do not go’?”
19 Now the men of the city said to Elisha, “Behold, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees, but the water is bad, and the land is unfruitful.” 20 He said, “Bring me a new bowl, and put salt in it.” So they brought it to him. 21 Then he went to the spring of water and threw salt in it and said, “Thus says the Lord, I have healed this water; from now on neither death nor miscarriage shall come from it.” 22 So the water has been healed to this day, according to the word that Elisha spoke.                                    2 Kings 2:14-22

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

    My Listening

The fourth secret to receive your master's gift is to have the courage to exercise the power you learned and received. Most of the time people are scared to exercise their received spiritual gifts.
We can see Elisha demonstrated the power to divide the river of the Jordan right away, after Elijah being taken to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha exercised his gift of knowledge knowing that Elijah would never come back. He exercised the power to turn the bad water to become good water. As described in the Bible: "I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive." That is a very powerful healing power!
So, you should have quite a number of spiritual gifts and power. Do you have the courage to exercise that power, or do you put that aside thinking that you do not have any spiritual gift and power?

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to have the courage to exercise the gifts and power we have received from you to heal, free and save. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. Do you have that courage to exercise those spiritual gifts and power you have received from Jesus? Why YES or why NO?

2. How do you know you have those gifts and power? Have you misused those spiritual gifts and power for your own purposes?

    3. What have you got from Jesus today?
