According to N.T. Wright, this passage is one of the most peculiar little stories in the whole New Testament. He says;
The point of the story, then, isn't that Jesus had the power to make a coin appear in the mouth of a fish - though that is certainly implied. Nor is it that Jesus is simply a good citizen, finding ways of paying the necessary taxes. The point is that he was a master strategist. He was himself, as he told his disciples to be, as wise as a serpent while remaining as innocent as a dove (10:16). There is, perhaps, a model there for all this followers as they pray and wait and plan how to confront the powers of this world with the subversive message of the kingdom of God.
There may be more and more political challenges coming directly to Christian leaders in the near future. Do you think we can have such kind of wisdom to confront those crisis following Jesus' way as a master strategist?
Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage of scripture we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

What I heard from Jesus today is: Jesus, a master strategist!
What I received from Jesus today is a challenge to us following Jesus way to be a master strategist to confront with the future political opposition against Christian value or other crisis.
Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be as wise as a serpent while remaining as innocent as a dove. In Jesus name we pray. Amen.
