Silence

1.   Put on your “brakes” and stop for a moment of silence
2.   Wait for God. Breathe deep for God's peace and feel His presence. Exhale your worries.

Praise and Thanksgiving

1.   Think through your day, all the times that made you smile
2.   Thank God for all those moments, and for all those people
3.   Open your heart to praise the Lord

Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
      you preserve my life;
you stretch out your hand against the wrath of my enemies,
and your right hand delivers me.
                    Psalm 138 :7

Confession and Repentance (Subjective Shifting Devotion Method http://bishopsilas.blogspot.ca/2009/08/count-down-5-subject-shifting-devotion.html)

1.  Pray for the Holy Spirit to work in you:

“Dear Holy Spirit, shine your light into the places of darkness in my life. Show me my sins, everything that blocks me from encountering God. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”

2.  Through the Holy Spirit, examine yourself for a short silence and then pray:

"Dear Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for our sins and being victorious over death and sin. I confess my sin to you(pause, to tell Jesus what the Holy Spirit has shown you). Forgive my sins by your blood and help me follow you. Holy Spirit, fill me that I may be able to receive your gift to love God and His people. In Jesus Name I pray, Amen."

The Word (Judges 18:1-31)

In those days there was no king in Israel. And in those days the tribe of the people of Dan was seeking for itself an inheritance to dwell in, for until then no inheritance among the tribes of Israel had fallen to them. So the people of Dan sent five able men from the whole number of their tribe, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to explore it. And they said to them, “Go and explore the land.” And they came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there. When they were by the house of Micah, they recognized the voice of the young Levite. And they turned aside and said to him, “Who brought you here? What are you doing in this place? What is your business here?” And he said to them, “This is how Micah dealt with me: he has hired me, and I have become his priest.” And they said to him, “Inquire of God, please, that we may know whether the journey on which we are setting out will succeed.” And the priest said to them, “Go in peace. The journey on which you go is under the eye of the Lord.”

24 And he said, “You take my gods that I made and the priest, and go away, and what have I left? How then do you ask me, ‘What is the matter with you?’” 25 And the people of Dan said to him, “Do not let your voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall upon you, and you lose your life with the lives of your household.” 26 Then the people of Dan went their way. And when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his home. 27 But the people of Dan took what Micah had made, and the priest who belonged to him, and they came to Laish, to a people quiet and unsuspecting, and struck them with the edge of the sword and burned the city with fire.

                 Judges 18:1-6, 24-27

Let's have a time to be still and give the Holy Spirit space to speak through the passage we have just read. Offer this time up to Jesus as you listen to him, while listening to "Gabriel's Oboe"

My Listening
The people of God had no king and no leader to lead them. They thought to have confirmation from a priest could help them to get God's guidance. But, what kind of priest that person was according to chapter 17? And what kind of result happened for them to slaughter people in that whole peaceful city.

Let's see how Professor John Goldingay tells us:

"Go;do well," Gershom had told them, and they did. "The journey on which you are going is under Yahweh's eye," he went on. In some sense no doubt he was right, but did Yahweh really rejoice in what they did and in how they did it? "God has delivered the country into our hand," the five spies reported when they went back to Zorah and Eshtaol. In some sense they were right, but did God really rejoice in what they did and in how they did it? Yet once again God is complicit in the results of their action, with its unprovoked violence. Once again, they all shows the kind of thing that happens when there is no king in Israel (verse 1).

The message I receive from Jesus today is the topic today:
You need to follow a God chosen and anointed leader

Just as Professor Goldingay points out that the reason to have that kind of confusion and disaster is because there is no king. The problem in today's society is we listen to no body. There is no king. And when there was kings they became tyrants like Caesar or Hitler.

How blessed we can be if we have leaders with the quality of Moses, Joshua, and Elijah. How blessed we can be if we allow our one and only one true King Jesus Christ to lead us and to follow those leaders He appointed to extend His mighty Kingdom?

    Dear Lord Jesus,
Help us to be willing to follow you as our King and also to follow those you appointed so that we can be able to extend your mighty Kingdom. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

Reflect on these questions:
    1. Do you understand more about the problem when there is no king?

2. Are you willing to follow Jesus as your King? What does it mean when you say you are willing to follow Jesus as your King? How willing you are to follow His appointed leader or leaders?

3. What have you got from Jesus today?
